A Google Play app showing zero ratings may be new, waiting for ratings to post, or displaying a context-specific view. Zero ratings alone do not mean Google has hidden the app, and a rating display is separate from whether the listing appears in search. To diagnose a particular app, check its Play Console status, production release, availability, and device compatibility.
Why does my Google Play app show no ratings?
Several situations can produce a zero-rating display: an app may be newly listed and have no public ratings yet; recently submitted ratings may still be processing; or the view may depend on the app, device, or region being checked. A zero on one view is not, by itself, evidence that Google has removed or hidden the listing.
The rating users see is not simply the app’s lifetime average. Google Play Console Help says the public rating is weighted toward more recent ratings, while Play Console also provides a lifetime average. Users can update their ratings, and ratings do not reset when an app releases a new version. See View and analyze your app’s ratings and reviews.
To investigate the rating itself, open the app’s Ratings page in Play Console. Compare the Google Play rating with the lifetime average, examine rating history and recent updates, and use the available breakdowns—such as country or region, language, app version, Android version, device type or model, and operator—to see whether the zero appears in a particular segment.

How long do Google Play ratings take to appear?
Google says new rating submissions are generally held for around 24 hours before they publicly post or affect the published rating. Treat that as an operational estimate, not a guarantee for an individual rating. Google may pause all new ratings and reviews while investigating suspected suspicious activity; if Play Console indicates such a pause, Google does not promise a publication time beyond its investigation process. Does a low app rating affect Play Store search ranking?
Ratings can contribute to discoverability, but Google does not publish a formula or numeric rating weight. Its search guidance names ratings, reviews, downloads, and other factors, and says the exact weights are proprietary. Google also describes relevance, app experience quality, editorial value, and user experience as factors in how apps are organized and ranked. A low rating may be one signal, but it does not establish why a particular app is or is not appearing for a query.

Google says ranking factors are weighted differently depending on where someone is looking in Google Play, their device, and personal preferences. Search emphasizes relevance to the query; Top Charts lean more on popularity. Results can also vary with location, carrier, supported features, and changing rankings. Therefore, check the same app across the relevant Play surface and context rather than treating one search result as a universal visibility test. Why can’t I find an app on Google Play?
Check publication and availability before attributing a missing result to ratings. An app in internal or closed testing is not publicly available through the Play Store; confirm that the intended public release is published to production. In Play Console, use “View on Google Play” to check the listing directly.

- Confirm release state: In Play Console, verify that the app has a production release published if it is meant to be publicly searchable. Testing tracks do not make it publicly available.
- Check device compatibility: Review supported devices and any exclusions. A listing may not be available to a device that the app does not support.
- Check country or region: Confirm that the app is available in the country or region where the search is being made.
- Compare the search context: Try a specific query and consider whether the result differs between search, charts, or editorial browsing, or across devices and locations.
- Review policy status: Read the exact state and explanation shown in Play Console or Google’s notice; policy actions do not all affect access in the same way.
Google’s policy distinguishes limited visibility, where direct access to the listing remains possible, from regional limitations, which restrict download availability by region, and removals or suspensions, which affect listing access. Do not treat these states as interchangeable. Consult Google Play policy guidance and follow the status shown for the app.
Why is my app visible on one device but not another?
Google Play results are contextual. A device may lack a supported feature, fall outside the app’s compatibility settings, or reflect a different location, carrier, or user preference. Search rankings can also change, and the factors vary across Play surfaces. Compare the devices’ compatibility and location, then check the app’s country availability and production status in Play Console. If the listing opens through “View on Google Play” on one device but is unavailable on another, use the app’s compatibility and regional settings to narrow down the difference.

What can improve an app’s discoverability?
Google’s guidance recommends practices that improve the listing and the underlying app experience, not attempts to game a ranking formula. Keep the Play Store listing accurate and comprehensive, maintain the app, encourage genuine feedback, and respond to customer issues. Google also notes that professional translation may improve worldwide search results; localization should accurately represent the app and its availability. None of these actions guarantees a particular ranking.
Do not offer incentives for ratings, post fake or repeated ratings, or use deceptive prompts. These practices violate Google Play policy. Ask for honest feedback and keep replies focused on the user’s issue. See Google Play ratings guidance and Google Play policy guidance.
