What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Proton VPN publishes a current privacy policy and external no-logs audit materials; the available evidence does not verify that ProXPN currently operates a supported VPN service. That means a reliable head-to-head verdict is not possible. Before paying for either service, confirm that the offer is genuine and current, and judge privacy claims by their published policy and audit scope—not by promises of anonymity.
Can you compare ProXPN and Proton VPN right now?
Not on equal terms. Proton VPN has current, identifiable privacy and service documentation. ProXPN-branded web pages and general VPN blog posts surfaced, but they do not establish that a supported ProXPN VPN service is available or set out verifiable current terms. A website’s existence is not proof that its VPN product is operating.
This is a verification gap, not evidence that ProXPN is discontinued, operational, or equivalent to Proton VPN. Do not pay for a ProXPN offer until you can confirm the product, current service terms, app, privacy policy, and support channel directly through authoritative ProXPN sources.
What Proton VPN says about logging
Proton’s published privacy policy says it does not log users’ traffic or the content of their communications. It also says the free VPN is covered by the same no-logs policy. These are Proton’s stated commitments; they should not be read as a guarantee that no data is ever processed for any purpose, or that users are anonymous.

A VPN changes which network operator can observe aspects of a connection. It does not, by itself, prevent websites, apps, advertisers, or other services from tracking activity through accounts, cookies, browser fingerprinting, or other mechanisms. Nor does it secure every device or connection automatically.
What Proton’s external audit establishes—and what it does not
Proton says its no-logs policy has undergone annual external review and links a 2026 report, describing it as the fifth annual audit. The audit announcement identifies Securitum as the reviewer. Read the audit announcement and linked report for the systems and policy scope actually examined; an audit is evidence about that defined scope, not proof of every privacy claim or a permanent guarantee about future operations.

Do not infer audit methods, exceptions, or detailed findings from the announcement alone. Those specifics belong to the original report. The policy and the audit are also different kinds of evidence: the policy states what Proton says it does, while the audit addresses what an external reviewer examined within the report’s scope.
Free and paid Proton VPN plans
Proton’s plan comparison page says free and paid plans receive the same privacy protections and no-logs treatment, while paid plans add features. That is Proton’s own description. Prices, server choices, connection limits, and feature entitlements can change, so check the live plan page before choosing a tier; this comparison does not establish current values for those details.

A free plan can be a way to use Proton VPN without committing to a paid tier, but it should not be mistaken for a promise of identical features. Compare the current plan details against what you need, rather than assuming a particular server location, streaming or P2P permission, or number of simultaneous connections.
What remains unverified for a fair comparison
The available evidence supports selected conclusions about Proton, but not a complete product shootout. In particular, comparable current information for ProXPN was not established on the following decision points:

- Service availability: whether ProXPN currently offers a functioning, supported VPN subscription.
- Privacy terms: a current ProXPN logging policy and any independent audit, including its date and scope.
- Legal context: each provider’s jurisdiction and applicable legal obligations.
- Apps and lifecycle: supported operating systems, app versions, update commitments, and end-of-life dates.

Proton publishes a product lifecycle support page with platform- and version-specific stages and end-of-life dates. Check it for your device and app version before relying on compatibility. No corresponding current ProXPN terms were verified, so missing information should not be treated as proof that ProXPN lacks a particular feature or protection.

Proton’s status page lists a paid-server infrastructure upgrade campaign scheduled for August 31 through October 12, 2026, during which some paid servers could temporarily enter maintenance. The notice also directs users with legacy OpenVPN configuration files and some macOS IKEv2 setups to relevant support information. This is a time-bound operational notice, not evidence of a general privacy defect. Check the Proton VPN status page for current service notices before troubleshooting a connection.

How to decide before subscribing
- Verify the provider and offer. For ProXPN, find an authoritative current product page, working app distribution path, current policy, and reachable support channel. If those cannot be confirmed, do not enter payment details.
- Read the policy, not just the headline. Identify what the provider says it logs, how long information is retained, and what the policy says about traffic and communications content.
- Check audit scope. Confirm the auditor, report date, systems examined, and any stated limitations in the report itself.
- Match the app to your device. Check supported platforms and app lifecycle dates, then verify that your operating system and version remain supported.
- Confirm current plan terms. Review price, renewal, server access, usage limits, support, and refund conditions on the provider’s live pages before purchase.
On the evidence available, Proton VPN is the verifiable option for readers who want published privacy-policy and audit materials. That is not a claim that Proton guarantees anonymity or that it beats a currently operating ProXPN service; ProXPN’s current service and terms remain unverified.
