The specific device behind the claim that a new “Ethereum ASIC” just launched could not be identified, so its launch and capabilities are unverified.
Can an ASIC mine ETH on Ethereum Mainnet?
No. Ethereum Mainnet switched from proof of work to proof of stake at The Merge on September 15, 2022. As Ethereum.org’s explanation of The Merge states, “Mining is no longer the means of producing valid blocks. Instead, the proof-of-stake validators have adopted this role and are now responsible for processing the validity of all transactions and proposing blocks.”
That change is decisive: an ASIC designed to perform proof-of-work calculations cannot produce valid Ethereum Mainnet blocks by mining. Ethereum.org describes Ethash as the network’s historical proof-of-work algorithm and labels mining switched off in its historical mining-algorithm documentation.
What might an “Ethereum ASIC” actually mine?
The label can refer to hardware built for Ethash or a related proof-of-work use case, but that does not mean it mines ETH on Mainnet. Ethereum Classic, for example, is a separate network; a device used for Ethereum Classic mining is not thereby mining Ethereum Mainnet. A secondary iPollo hardware overview discusses Ethash machines in the context of miners who moved to Ethereum Classic after Ethereum’s transition. That context is not evidence of Mainnet compatibility or of current stock.

- ETH on Ethereum Mainnet: produced through proof-of-stake validation, not mining.
- Ethereum Classic or another proof-of-work chain: may be a possible use for compatible hardware, depending on the machine and network; it is a different activity and asset.
Has a new Ethereum ASIC actually launched?
The device, manufacturer, launch date, and primary announcement behind the “just launched” claim are not established here. A surfaced PR.com index entry for a HMiners release dates to September 1, 2017. It is historical promotional material, not verification of a current launch.
To assess a specific announcement, check the manufacturer’s primary product page and determine which chain and algorithm the device supports. A claim that a unit mines Ethash, or that it is an “Ethereum miner,” does not establish that it mines ETH on Ethereum Mainnet. The relevant distinction is the network: Mainnet no longer accepts mined blocks.

How Ethereum produces blocks now
Ethereum Mainnet relies on proof-of-stake validators rather than mining. Validators participate in transaction processing and block proposals under the proof-of-stake system. This is why buying or operating a proof-of-work ASIC is not a route to producing Ethereum Mainnet blocks; mining hardware and staking are different roles in different consensus mechanisms.
