If your Samsung washer will not drain, spin, or fill, start with the displayed code and the washer’s exact model number. Samsung error labels, filter access, hose setup, and reset steps vary by model and region, so use the manual for your specific washer as the controlling guide. Look up the full model code on Samsung Support before following model-dependent instructions or ordering parts.
Before troubleshooting: make the washer safe
Write down the full model number, country or market, exact symptom, and any code shown on the display. Codes are clues, not universal diagnoses: Samsung’s US guide groups 4C/4E and related codes with filling problems and 5C/5E with draining, while Samsung’s Australia and UK guidance shows why the exact model’s code chart matters. Check the manual or the regional support page for your washer before trying a button sequence.
- Stop the cycle and switch the washer off before opening a filter or draining leftover water.
- Have towels and a shallow container ready. Water left after a hot cycle can be very hot; Samsung US advises allowing about one hour for it to cool before draining it.
- If water is actively leaking, stop the cycle and switch off the washer if it is safe to do so. Limit checks to visible external hoses; do not open the cabinet.
Why won’t my Samsung washer drain?
Check the drain hose and its installation before assuming the pump has failed. Samsung US identifies incorrect drain-hose installation as the most common cause of drain issues in its troubleshooting guidance. A kink, blockage, damage, excessive insertion, an airtight connection, or an incorrect height can prevent proper draining or contribute to siphoning and backflow.
- Make sure the washer is level and the drain outlet is not blocked.
- Inspect the visible drain hose for kinks, crushing, damage, or an obstruction. Check that it is not pushed too far into the standpipe or sink and that the connection is not airtight.
- Confirm the hose height and routing against the manual for your model and the drain arrangement in your home. In Samsung US guidance, the hose should enter a standpipe or sink by 6–8 inches; the stated height range is 18–96 inches for a standpipe and 24–35 inches for a wash basin. These are US setup-specific instructions, not universal dimensions.
- If your front-loader has a user-removable pump filter, clean it as described in the filter section below. Top-load models do not use this same removable-filter step.
Do not remove the rear screw that retains the drain hose. Samsung warns this can cause automatic draining or further errors; if the hose holder is missing, arrange service rather than improvising a repair. Can I clean the washer filter myself?
If your Samsung front-loader has a removable pump filter, Samsung US recommends cleaning it about once a month or every 40 washes, whichever comes first. Top loaders do not have this user-removable filter step. Follow your exact model’s manual, because access and draining procedures differ.
- Switch off the washer, let hot water cool, and put towels and a shallow container by the access panel.
- If the washer has a small emergency drain hose, use it to drain residual water into the container before removing the filter.
- Remove and clean the filter as the manual directs. A toothbrush or another soft-bristle brush is suitable for loosening debris.
- Reinstall the filter and any covers securely before running another cycle.

Why is my Samsung washer not spinning?
A washer may not spin because it has not drained, because the load is unbalanced, or because the door is not closed. Samsung explains that the washer tries to drain before spinning, so a drainage fault or blocked filter can prevent the spin phase.
- First confirm that water has drained. If it has not, follow the drain checks above.
- Redistribute tangled or uneven laundry, then restart the cycle. A single bulky item or a very small load can cause imbalance on some models.
- Check that the door is fully closed and that the selected cycle or settings permit spinning. Samsung UK notes that the washer will not tumble or spin unless the door is closed.
- Use Calibration Mode only if the manual for your exact model documents it; some Samsung models do not include this mode.

Why is my Samsung washer showing 4C or 4E?
In Samsung US’s code guide, 4C/4E, nF, and related codes indicate a filling problem. Begin with the water supply rather than assuming an internal failure:
- Check that the hot and cold hoses are connected to their matching inlets.
- Make sure the supply valves are open and the hoses are not kinked.
- If inspecting or reconnecting hoses, close the water valves first and reconnect carefully. Inspect inlet screens only as the model manual directs.
Samsung US advises against Flood Safe hoses in its filling guidance. If the code remains after the supported checks, use the exact model’s code instructions or arrange service. Code names and recommendations differ across regions and models; consult Samsung US: washer error codes and your model manual.

What do 5C and 5E mean?
Samsung US groups 5C/5E and related codes with no-drain errors. Check hose routing, kinks or blockages, insertion and height, and the front-loader filter if your washer has one. Resolve the underlying drain problem before treating a no-spin symptom as a separate fault. If the code remains, the hose is damaged, or the hose holder is missing, contact Samsung service.

Samsung Australia’s code list includes leakage, sensor, motor, voltage, and door-lock fault families, but its labels are not interchangeable with every washer’s chart. For a persistent leak or internal-fault code, stop the cycle, switch off the washer if safe, and arrange Samsung service. Do not remove panels or attempt electrical or internal repairs. When to call Samsung service
Arrange service if supported external checks do not clear the problem, a code returns after the instructed check, the washer has a recurring motor, sensor, electrical, or lock fault, or water is actively leaking. Do not order a pump, hose, latch, or control board based only on a symptom or code: confirm the diagnosis and part fit for the full model number first.
Samsung Support provides model-specific manuals and repair guidance. Select the support site for your market and search using the washer’s full model code; an instruction intended for another region or model may not fit your machine.
