Hyprland’s optional Hyprperks subscription launched at €5 plus tax per month in July 2025, offering support services and a preconfigured desktop setup—not paid access to the compositor. On August 21, 2026, Omacom Foundation announced that Hyprperks would become free and paid subscriptions would end when its sponsorship takes over on October 10, 2026. That transition is still upcoming as of October 4, 2026.
What was Hyprperks?
Hyprperks was an optional subscription introduced by Hyprland on July 28, 2025. At launch, it cost €5 plus tax per month and included subscriber-only forum access, developer Q&A and support, and a preconfigured desktop experience with one-click installation and updates. Hyprland’s launch announcement described it as a way to support development while receiving additional services.
The official pricing page continued to list the €5 plus tax monthly price as of October 4, 2026. Pricing and availability are date-sensitive because the announced transition is scheduled for October 10, 2026.
Do you have to pay to use Hyprland?
No. The Hyprland compositor remains free and open source. Hyprland’s support page says, “We will never lock out features behind a paywall.” The Hyprland Account terms also say account services are not necessary to use Hyprland and do not provide new core compositor features.

In other words, the subscription concerned optional configuration and support services, not access to a stripped-down or full version of the compositor. Users could continue using Hyprland without subscribing.
Subscription or donation: what was the difference?

Choose a donation if your aim is simply to contribute. The historical subscription was for people who also wanted its member services and desktop setup. Hyprland’s support page describes donations as voluntary.

In an August 21, 2026 announcement, Omacom Foundation said it had agreed to sponsor Vaxry exclusively for three years, with an option to extend for another two. The announcement says the arrangement will allow existing Hyprperks to be released for free and paid subscriptions to end.
The foundation named October 10, 2026 as the date it takes over. Since that date is still in the future as of October 4, 2026, the change should be treated as announced, not completed. The announcement does not state the sponsorship’s monetary value, and the official sources cited here do not establish subscriber counts or subscription revenue.
