The OnePlus 13R upgrades the 12R with a newer processor, a larger stated battery and a dedicated 2x optical telephoto camera. The 12R, however, has the higher charging rating on the cited US specifications. A reliable price difference cannot be calculated from the available figures: they pair the 12R’s historical US launch price with the 13R’s India list prices.

What changed from the OnePlus 12R to 13R?
Newer processor generation
The 13R moves from Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 to Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. That establishes a newer chip platform, but it does not by itself establish a particular real-world speed gain. The available specifications include no independent benchmark results.
Higher stated battery capacity
OnePlus lists a typical capacity of 6,000mAh for the 13R, compared with 5,500mAh for the 12R. Capacity alone cannot predict how long either phone lasts: actual endurance depends on factors such as workload, settings and network conditions, and no controlled battery comparison is available here.

A dedicated telephoto camera
The 13R adds a 50MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom. The 12R’s listed rear setup is a main camera, ultra-wide camera and macro camera. This is the clearest camera-system difference, but the module specifications do not establish which phone takes better photos overall.
Different charging ratings
The cited US specification lists 80W SUPERVOOC for the 12R. OnePlus lists 55W SUPERVOOC for the 13R and says it can reach up to 80W with specified OnePlus adapters. Check the adapter requirement for your market and setup; a wattage rating alone does not give a direct comparison of charging time.

Similar display size, different LTPO generation
Both phones have a 6.78-inch display with an adaptive 1–120Hz refresh rate. OnePlus identifies LTPO 4.0 for the 12R and LTPO 4.1 for the 13R; the published descriptions also differ in resolution wording and detail. These specifications do not, on their own, show how the displays compare in everyday viewing.
What is the OnePlus 12R vs 13R price difference?
The cited prices are not a like-for-like comparison. The 12R’s USD$499.99 figure was its US launch price, announced in January 2024 before sales began February 13; it is not a current offer (PR Newswire’s distribution of the launch announcement). OnePlus India lists the 13R at ₹42,999 for 12GB+256GB and ₹49,999 for 16GB+512GB (OnePlus India specifications).

Because these figures come from different countries and represent different price types, subtracting or converting them would not produce a meaningful price difference. For a buying decision, compare current offers in the same country for matching RAM and storage, and account for the phone’s condition and retailer. Prices and availability can change.

Choose the 13R if its upgrades matter to you
- You want the newer Snapdragon generation, while recognizing that the specifications do not quantify a real-world speed advantage.
- You expect to use a dedicated 2x optical telephoto camera.
- You prefer the larger stated battery capacity, without assuming it guarantees a particular increase in endurance.
Consider the 12R if its trade-offs suit your needs
- You find it at a lower current price in your market after comparing the same storage configuration and condition.
- You value its listed 80W charging rating and have a compatible charging setup.
- The 13R’s telephoto camera and newer chip generation are not priorities for your use.
Check software support before buying either model
The cited US 12R specification page says the phone receives at least three generations of Android OS upgrades and four years of security updates from launch. That is a stated commitment, not a current confirmation of remaining support; check OnePlus’s latest support information before buying. The sources cited here do not establish a comparable 13R support commitment, so they do not show that it will receive a longer support window.
Bottom line on the comparison
The 13R brings the more substantial hardware changes: a newer processor generation, greater stated battery capacity and a dedicated 2x optical telephoto camera. The 12R has the higher charging rating in the cited US specifications. Which is the better buy depends on current local prices, your camera and charging priorities, and the exact configuration available.
