Epic Games discontinued the app on October 14, 2021, and its Epic Games Store listing now marks it unavailable. The setup instructions below describe how the app worked before it shut down—not steps that will create a usable account now.
Why Houseparty no longer works
Houseparty was a social video-chat app that let people see when friends were available, join video chats called “parties,” and socialize. The app also included games, according to its Epic Games Store description and the historical iMore setup guide.
Epic’s official notice is direct: “The Houseparty app is discontinued as of October 14, 2021.” That notice appears on Epic’s Houseparty and Fortnite announcement, which was originally published November 18, 2020. The app’s former installation and signup process can’t restore the service, and an old download or device backup does not make Houseparty usable again.

What happened to Houseparty’s Fortnite video chat?
Houseparty once offered a video-chat integration with Fortnite. Epic’s 2020 announcement described linking a Houseparty account to an Epic Games account. The announced setup paired Houseparty on an iOS or Android device with Fortnite on PC, PlayStation 5, or PlayStation 4. Epic’s historical Houseparty integration instructions also carry the discontinuation notice. Because the Houseparty app has shut down, those integration instructions no longer enable video chat.

Is Epic Parties the replacement?
No. Epic’s current Epic Parties FAQ describes a separate voice- and text-chat feature across Epic products, including Fortnite, the Epic Games Launcher, and Epic apps. It is not Houseparty and does not restore Houseparty accounts, rooms, or service.
