| July 2011 | Selected new-release title | Walmart announced a customer vote to select a new-release film that could be rented for $0.99 on July 29. Rentals could be streamed through Walmart.com, VUDU.com, or compatible VUDU-enabled devices, without a subscription. Walmart’s July 26, 2011 announcement. |
| February and November 2014 | Daily offer and individual listed rental | A Vudu forum discussion records a “99 cent movie of the day” being unavailable for a day because of a film issue, with a VUDU Engineering participant saying it would return the next day. A separate November discussion concerns a rental that did not initially show the expected price; the participant later said the price appeared correct. Vudu forum discussion. |
| January 2015 | Rotating monthly list | A forum participant identified as VUDU Engineering said the daily deal had changed to a rotating monthly list of 100 $0.99 rentals. That number describes the historical promotion, not a current catalog size. Vudu forum thread. |
These records establish that Vudu ran discount rental promotions; they do not establish present-day eligibility, catalog size, price, or availability.
How to check for a deal today
- Open the current Fandango at Home/Vudu service and find the movie you want to rent.
- Check the rental price shown on that title’s listing. Do not assume a promotion applies to every film or to the title you selected.
- Review the final price at checkout before confirming. Historical forum reports show that a title’s availability or displayed price could be an issue, so rely on the price presented for the specific transaction.
The records reviewed here do not confirm whether a $0.99 promotion is active now. A price shown for one title should not be treated as a standing rental rate.
