On the available evidence, the Dimensity 8350 family has the stronger peak CPU and GPU specifications, and third-party benchmark figures also favor the 8350 Apex. But the benchmark comparisons do not all test the exact suffix-branded chips in the title: MediaTek publishes specifications for the base Dimensity 8350 and 7400, while 91mobiles compares the 8350 Apex with a chip labeled simply Dimensity 7400. Treat the result as an informed indication, not a controlled Apex-versus-7400-Ultra verdict.

At a glance: which chipset is stronger?

For peak processing capability, the Dimensity 8350 is the stronger starting point. MediaTek lists four Cortex-A715 and four Cortex-A510 CPU cores, a Mali-G615 MC6 GPU, LPDDR5X memory support and UFS 4.0 storage for the base 8350. Its base Dimensity 7400 specification lists Cortex-A78 and Cortex-A55 cores, Mali-G615 MC2 graphics, and options for LPDDR5 or LPDDR4x memory and UFS 2.2 or UFS 3.1 storage. MediaTek’s Dimensity 8350 specifications and Dimensity 7400 specifications describe base chips, not every phone sold with an Apex or Ultra suffix.

The benchmark evidence points in the same direction, but it has important limits. 91mobiles reports higher AnTuTu and Geekbench scores for Dimensity 8350 Apex than for a Dimensity 7400; its comparison does not identify that second chip as the 7400 Ultra. GadgetVersus does publish an Apex-versus-7400-Ultra aggregate, but warns results can vary by device. Neither source establishes a controlled, same-phone test of the exact two suffix variants.

Specifications compared

The table below compares MediaTek’s official base-chip specifications. These are supported capabilities and stated ceilings; a phone maker may not implement every option.

CPU and graphics

The 8350’s newer Cortex-A715 performance-core arrangement and larger-count Mali-G615 MC6 GPU give it the more capable specification on paper. The 7400 uses an older Cortex-A78/A55 CPU arrangement and the smaller MC2 variant of the same named GPU family. Core names, counts and maximum clock figures help explain the expected performance class, but they do not establish how fast a particular phone will feel: handset power limits, cooling and software affect sustained performance.

Memory, storage and connectivity

The 8350 supports faster LPDDR5X memory and UFS 4.0 with MCQ, while the 7400’s listed memory and storage depend on the phone’s configuration. Those choices can affect loading, file transfers and multitasking, so compare the actual phone’s RAM and storage specifications as well as its chipset.

MediaTek lists higher peak downlink capability for the 8350, but those figures are platform specifications rather than promises of consumer download speeds. The network, supported bands, carrier and local conditions all matter. Both chips list Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4.

Display, camera and AI ceilings

The display refresh rates and camera capabilities in the table are maximum platform support, not features guaranteed in every handset. A manufacturer chooses the actual panel, camera sensors and video modes. Likewise, the NPU model identifies AI hardware but does not by itself show which AI features a phone enables or how well its software performs them.

Benchmark results: what the available numbers show

Scores from different publishers and benchmark versions should not be combined into one ranking. They can reflect different devices, sample pools and testing conditions, and a chipset’s result in a particular phone is not a universal expected score.

91mobiles: Apex versus a chip labeled Dimensity 7400

91mobiles reports the following results for its comparison of Dimensity 8350 Apex with Dimensity 7400. The comparison partner is not identified as “7400 Ultra.” The page’s publication date was not exposed in the retrieved result.

Test Dimensity 8350 Apex Dimensity 7400
AnTuTu total 1,402,278 979,430
Geekbench single-core 1,314 1,084
Geekbench multi-core 4,092 3,015

These are 91mobiles-reported results, not controlled measurements proving how an Apex phone compares with a 7400 Ultra phone. They indicate an 8350 Apex lead in the reported tests, but should not be presented as guaranteed scores or as a variant-matched Ultra comparison. See 91mobiles’ Dimensity 7400 versus Dimensity 8350 Apex comparison.

Other aggregates: useful context, not a substitute for matched testing

NanoReview reports AnTuTu 11 aggregate scores of 1,724,757 for the base Dimensity 8350 and 953,150 for the base Dimensity 7400, based on 198 and 91 submitted samples respectively. Those are the site’s aggregates, not a controlled test of the Apex and Ultra variants. Its available Geekbench 6 excerpt gives the 8350 a single-core score of 1,398 and multi-core score of 4,313, and the 7400 a single-core score of 1,061; the corresponding 7400 multi-core value is not available in that excerpt, so a complete pairwise Geekbench comparison cannot be made from it. NanoReview’s base-chip comparison data also illustrates why figures from different benchmark versions and publishers need to stay separate.

GadgetVersus lists aggregate AnTuTu figures of 1,398,466 for Dimensity 8350 Apex and 863,405 for Dimensity 7400 Ultra. It explicitly cautions that averages may vary by device. This provides a suffix-matched comparison label, but not a controlled, device-matched laboratory result. GadgetVersus’ Apex versus 7400 Ultra comparison is best read as indicative aggregate evidence.

Why the exact variant names matter

“Dimensity 8350 Apex” and “Dimensity 7400 Ultra” are the names in the comparison title, but MediaTek’s product pages specify the base Dimensity 8350 and base Dimensity 7400. The 91mobiles benchmark comparison uses the Apex name for one side and “Dimensity 7400” for the other. GadgetVersus labels its aggregate as Apex versus 7400 Ultra. These naming differences mean the available evidence does not establish that every base-chip specification or benchmark score applies exactly to every suffix-branded phone.

For a purchase decision, check the exact processor named in the phone’s official regional specifications. A relevant example is the OnePlus Nord CE 5 5G, which 91mobiles lists among phones powered by Dimensity 8350 Apex. That listing does not establish current stock, price or availability in your region.

Which one should you choose for gaming or everyday use?

For gaming

The 8350’s Mali-G615 MC6 specification makes it the stronger paper choice for graphics-heavy games. Actual frame rates and consistency depend on the phone’s cooling, power limits, display resolution, game settings and software. A short benchmark score cannot show whether a handset sustains performance during a long session or throttles as it heats up.

For everyday use

Both chip families can support modern phone features, but the 8350’s stronger listed CPU, GPU, memory and storage ceilings suggest more headroom for demanding tasks. For routine browsing, messaging and video, the handset’s display, battery, software and configuration may matter more to the experience than the processor comparison alone.

Compare the phones, not just the chip names

Before choosing a handset, compare the exact regional model and configuration. Pay attention to sustained-load behavior, memory and storage, screen resolution and refresh rate, battery, software support and local price. The cited sources establish chipset specifications and third-party scores, not a controlled comparison covering those phone-level factors.

Quick Recap

  • Confirm whether the listing says 8350 Apex or 7400 Ultra, rather than assuming a base-chip result proves the suffix variant.
  • Check RAM, storage type and capacity, since the 7400 platform supports different memory and storage options.
  • Look for testing on the specific handset if sustained gaming performance is important.
  • Compare the complete phone’s battery, display, software support and price in your region.
