The standard OPPO Reno12 5G is a stylish, relatively light mid-range phone with a large 120Hz display and fast 80W charging. Its everyday strengths make it appealing, but its processor is less compelling for demanding gaming, and reviewers found the AI editing experience uneven. Whether it is worth buying depends on your local price and which trade-offs matter most.
What this review covers
This review is about the standard OPPO Reno12 5G, not the Reno12 Pro 5G, Reno12 F/FS, or the differently configured China-market Reno12. Regional specifications and software features can differ. OPPO Singapore identifies its listed standard model as CPH2625, with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage; check the model number and configuration offered where you live (OPPO Singapore specifications).

Pros and cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Large 120Hz display and a slim, light-feeling design | Processor performance is not the strongest choice for demanding games at its price |
| 5,000mAh typical battery capacity and 80W charging on the specification sheet | Preloaded apps and interface clutter may bother buyers who want a cleaner software experience |
| Portrait-oriented camera tools and balanced daylight color in one reviewer’s comparisons | Some camera comparisons found softer detail or more noise than alternatives |
| Some AI tools may help with productivity and communication | AI editing results were mixed; one reviewer found object removal disappointing and AI Studio cumbersome |
These are review findings, not a guarantee that every owner will see identical results. 91mobiles rated its tested Reno12 7.6/10 overall, with 8.5/10 for design, 8.0/10 for display and battery, and 7.3/10 for performance. The publication’s score is its editorial judgment, not a lab measurement (91mobiles review).

Design and display: the Reno12’s strongest first impression
The Reno12’s slim profile and relatively low weight make it a reasonable option for people who prefer a large-screen phone that does not feel especially bulky. OPPO Singapore lists a 6.7-inch, 2412 × 1080 display with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. The high refresh rate can make scrolling and supported animations appear smoother than on a standard 60Hz screen, though the exact experience depends on settings and app support.
91mobiles praised the design and display in its review, while BTTR also highlighted the bright AMOLED screen and distinctive finish. These assessments support the Reno12 as an appealing everyday viewing device, but they do not establish that its screen is better than every phone in the same price range (91mobiles review; BTTR review).

Performance and gaming
The phone uses MediaTek’s Dimensity 7300-Energy platform, according to OPPO’s European announcement. That establishes the chipset named for the European Reno12 launch; it does not, by itself, establish real-world speed or sustained gaming performance.
In its review, 91mobiles said processor performance lagged some competitors. BTTR likewise reported benchmark performance behind similarly priced Motorola phones. These reviewers’ observations make the Reno12 a less persuasive pick if maximum gaming performance is your priority. They do not mean ordinary apps will necessarily feel slow: the evidence here does not establish that every owner will encounter the same experience or that every game will run poorly.

If you are choosing between phones, compare sustained game performance at the same current local price rather than relying only on chipset names or headline benchmark claims. Also weigh screen comfort, battery and charging, software clutter, build and IP rating, regional network bands, storage, and warranty. Older comparisons in 91mobiles’ review include the Motorola Edge 50 Pro, Redmi Note 13 Pro+, and POCO F6; check current models and prices before treating that comparison as present-day buying advice.
Cameras: useful portrait options, with detail trade-offs
OPPO’s European launch announcement says the standard Reno12’s main camera uses a Sony LYT-600 sensor with autofocus and optical image stabilization, and describes portrait mode with up to 2x zoom. 91mobiles found balanced color in daylight comparisons, but noted that detail and sharpness could trail named rivals in some scenes; its review also described noise or softness in certain comparisons.
Rank #4
Keep the model distinction clear when comparing camera specifications: OPPO’s announcement separately assigns the Reno12 Pro a dedicated 50MP telephoto portrait camera and a 50MP autofocus selfie camera. Those Pro features should not be attributed to the standard Reno12 (OPPO’s June 18, 2024 European launch announcement; 91mobiles review).
Battery life and charging
OPPO specifies a 5,000mAh typical-capacity battery and 80W SUPERVOOC charging. BTTR praised battery life and reported about 47 minutes to charge its tested unit from empty to full in its setup. That is one reviewer’s result, not a universal charge-time guarantee; actual time can depend on the unit, charger, conditions, and battery state.

OPPO also claims more than four years of battery health, based on company lab simulation. Treat that as a manufacturer claim under simulated conditions, not a promise about how long an individual phone will retain a particular capacity. Confirm whether the relevant charger is included with the version sold in your market rather than assuming the bundle is identical everywhere (OPPO announcement; BTTR review).
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Software and AI features
OPPO’s global product page identifies ColorOS 14.1, but software versions and feature availability can vary by market and may change through updates. OPPO says some AI features may arrive by OTA, require an account or internet connection, or vary by region. Check the phone’s local product listing and settings for the features actually available to you (OPPO Reno12 product page).
Independent assessments are mixed rather than uniformly positive or negative. 91mobiles found some AI productivity features useful, while BTTR criticized object removal results and the AI Studio app’s account and in-app-currency requirements. If generative photo editing is a main reason for buying, try the specific feature on the regional software version before relying on it. 91mobiles also described the interface as cluttered with preloaded apps, a consideration for buyers who prefer a cleaner setup (91mobiles review; BTTR review).
Is the OPPO Reno12 5G worth buying?
The Reno12 makes the most sense for someone who values design and comfortable handling, a large high-refresh display, fast charging, and portrait-oriented camera tools for everyday use. It is harder to recommend without qualification to buyers focused on demanding gaming, the cleanest software experience, or reliably strong generative editing.
Price can change the verdict. BTTR reported an Australian recommended retail price of A$799 in its 2024 review; that is historical Australian context, not a current worldwide price or a claim about today’s local offer. Compare the Reno12 with alternatives at the same current local price, checking camera detail and low-light consistency, sustained game performance, software and update commitment, IP rating, charger availability, network bands, storage, and warranty (BTTR review).
