The Xiaomi 17 is the more compact, camera-flexible option on paper; the POCO X8 Pro Max has the larger screen and substantially higher stated battery capacity. Both list 100W wired charging, but only Xiaomi lists wireless charging. There is no reliable universal price difference: the available POCO figures are launch reference prices, and the cited material does not give a matching Xiaomi 17 price for the same market and storage.

Which phone is smaller and easier to handle?
The Xiaomi 17 has a 6.3-inch display, compared with the POCO X8 Pro Max’s 6.83-inch screen. That makes Xiaomi the more compact choice by screen size, while POCO gives you more viewing area for video, games, and reading. The official Xiaomi page describes the phone as compact; an exact Xiaomi mass is not established here. TechRadar lists the POCO at 162.9 × 77.9 × 8.2mm and 218g, so anyone especially concerned with pocket fit or one-handed use should compare the actual regional models in person.
The manufacturers’ brightness figures are not directly comparable: Xiaomi describes a multi-scenario peak, while POCO specifies a peak over 25% of the display area. They should not be read as proof that one screen is brighter in ordinary use.
Which has the more versatile camera setup?
On the published hardware, Xiaomi has the more versatile rear-camera arrangement. Its three 50MP modules include a dedicated floating telephoto camera with optical image stabilization, alongside main and ultra-wide cameras. POCO lists a 50MP stabilized main camera and an 8MP ultra-wide, with no dedicated telephoto listed on its product page.

This is a comparison of listed hardware, not a verdict on photo quality. Megapixel counts and camera-module specifications do not establish how well either phone performs in real scenes; comparable independent camera testing would be needed for that conclusion.
Battery capacity and charging: what the specifications tell you
POCO lists an 8500mAh typical battery, while Xiaomi lists 6330mAh typical capacity. The POCO figure is notably larger, but capacity alone cannot predict how long a phone lasts: screen use, settings, signal strength, software, and other conditions affect runtime. POCO also says battery configuration may vary by market.

Both manufacturers list 100W wired charging. Xiaomi additionally lists 50W wireless charging; POCO lists 27W wired reverse charging, compared with Xiaomi’s 22.5W wired reverse charging. These are manufacturer specifications, not a guarantee of identical charging times. Actual results depend on conditions and supported protocols, and adapter inclusion can vary by region and package. Check the local box contents before assuming a compatible charger is included.
Performance: two different high-end chipsets
Xiaomi specifies the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, while POCO specifies the MediaTek Dimensity 9500s. Both are positioned as high-performance Android handsets by their published chipsets, but chipset names alone do not establish which phone is faster in everyday tasks, sustained workloads, or games. A defensible performance ranking requires comparable testing of the two retail models; no such benchmark results are established here.

What is the price difference?
A fair price difference requires prices for both phones in the same country, with the same storage, at the same time, and on comparable seller and warranty terms. The available figures do not meet that test: TechRadar’s review, published April 3, 2026, reports POCO X8 Pro Max launch reference prices of $469/£469 for 256GB and $519/£519 for 512GB. Those are launch-context figures, not live listings, and the cited evidence supplies no same-market Xiaomi 17 price for either storage tier. The dollar and pound figures are separate market references, not a direct currency conversion or a basis for a universal difference.
To compare current offers, match storage first, then compare local prices after taxes and any delivery charges. Check whether each listing is an authorized local model, whether warranty coverage is equivalent, and whether a promotion or imported-unit price is involved. TechRadar notes in its review that Xiaomi phones are not technically available in the US and that support may be spotty for imported units; it also notes Xiaomi does not sell POCO phones in Australia. Treat those as the review’s market context, not a substitute for checking current local availability and network compatibility.

Which one should you choose?
Choose Xiaomi 17 if
- You want the smaller display size and a more compact handset.
- You value a dedicated telephoto camera in addition to main and ultra-wide cameras.
- You want the option of wireless charging, which Xiaomi lists at 50W.
Choose POCO X8 Pro Max if
- You prefer a larger 6.83-inch display.
- You prioritize a higher stated typical battery capacity.
- You want a phone with a dedicated wired reverse-charging specification of 27W.
Important checks before buying
- Regional model: Xiaomi warns that connectivity features can vary by region, and local POCO battery configuration and feature availability may vary. Confirm the exact model and supported network bands with the seller.
- Price and storage: Compare the same storage tier in your country and use current seller prices, not launch references, to calculate a difference.
- Warranty and package: Confirm local warranty coverage and whether the box includes a suitable charging adapter.
- Software support: The cited product information does not establish which phone has the longer update policy, so check the manufacturer’s current regional support terms before making that a deciding factor.
Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
