The NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano Super Developer Kit is the Jetson Orin Nano Developer Kit running a faster, software-enabled power mode—not a new physical hardware revision. NVIDIA says the kits have no physical hardware or package differences; “Super” refers to the higher-performance configuration and branding.

What “Super” means

NVIDIA introduced the Super configuration by optimizing software and adding a higher power mode that raises operating clocks. The underlying developer-kit hardware remains the same. NVIDIA’s Jetson Orin Nano Super FAQ says the Super kit has no physical hardware or package differences from the earlier Jetson Orin Nano Developer Kit.

That distinction matters when identifying the product: “Super” does not mean a different board or a newly revised package. It means the existing kit can run with higher published configuration figures when supported software and power settings are in place.

How the published specifications compare

NVIDIA’s December 17, 2024 launch comparison gives these figures for the original and Super configurations. They are vendor-published specifications, not a guarantee that every application will run faster by the same amount.

NVIDIA describes the Super configuration as offering up to 1.7x higher generative-AI performance. That is NVIDIA’s stated claim, not an independent benchmark or a universal speedup for all workloads. The launch comparison is available in NVIDIA’s December 17, 2024 announcement.

Can an existing Jetson Orin Nano Developer Kit become Super?

Yes. NVIDIA says owners of previous Jetson Orin Nano Developer Kits can use the new power mode by upgrading to the JetPack software version described at launch. The Super designation therefore does not require buying a different physical developer kit, although software support and power configuration still matter.

How Super Mode affects power, cooling, and production modules

Do not assume every Jetson module, software image, or power setup supports Super Mode automatically. NVIDIA documents separate support and setup requirements for production Orin Nano and Orin NX modules. Its JetPack 6.2 documentation lists new reference power modes for those modules and requires the relevant flashing configuration. Consult the JetPack SDK 6.2 page and the Jetson Linux power and performance documentation for the applicable module, software release, and configuration.

NVIDIA calls MAXN SUPER an uncapped power mode. “Uncapped” does not mean the device can sustain any power draw or clock indefinitely: when total module power exceeds its thermal design budget, the module lowers frequency to stay within that budget. A suitable input-power and thermal design is therefore important, and builders can tune a custom mode to balance performance with power or thermal stability.

NVIDIA notes that the higher power budget may require changes to a carrier board or thermal design. For a deployable product, verify the exact module variant, JetPack or Jetson Linux release, flashing configuration, input-power design, and cooling requirements rather than assuming the developer-kit setup transfers directly.

Is the developer kit intended for production?

No. NVIDIA describes developer kits as tools for development and testing, not production devices. A kit combines a Jetson module with a reference carrier board and standard interfaces; it is suited to learning, prototyping, and validating edge-AI software. For a product that will be manufactured or deployed, use the appropriate production module and design the surrounding system for its power, thermal, and carrier-board requirements. NVIDIA’s Jetson Developer Kits page points product builders toward modules, design resources, and Jetson partners.
