To make your Samsung phone correct words as you type, open Settings > General management > Samsung Keyboard settings, turn on Predictive text, then open Auto replace and enable the switch for your language if it is available. Predictive text shows suggestions; Auto replace is the setting that automatically changes or completes words.
Find Samsung Keyboard’s autocorrect settings
- Open Settings.
- Tap General management.
- Tap Samsung Keyboard settings. Some software versions label this screen Samsung Keyboard.
- Turn on Predictive text to see word suggestions.
- Tap Auto replace, then enable the switch for the language you type in, if that control appears.
You can also open Samsung Keyboard settings while typing by tapping the keyboard toolbar’s gear icon. If the menu names differ, search Settings for “Samsung Keyboard.” Samsung notes that screens and options can vary by model, carrier and software version: Samsung US: Samsung Keyboard settings.
Choose the behavior you want

Samsung documents these as distinct features, so turning on suggestions alone may not produce automatic replacement. Depending on the software version, Suggest text corrections may include a Manage apps control to choose where corrections are offered. See Samsung’s UK guide to predictive text and keyboard options.
Remove words Samsung Keyboard has learned
Remove one suggestion
When an unwanted learned word appears in the suggestion bar, press and hold it, then confirm that you want to remove it. This removes that suggestion rather than clearing all personalized predictions.

Clear personalized predictions
To erase learned prediction data, open Samsung Keyboard settings > Reset to default settings > Erase personalised predictions. On other versions, the option may instead be called Clear personalised data; use the wording shown on your phone. This action concerns keyboard predictions, not messages or other phone data. Samsung’s UK support instructions describe the reset route.
Create a shortcut for text you type often
Text shortcuts expand a short entry into a longer phrase. In Samsung Keyboard settings, tap Text shortcuts—sometimes found under More typing options—and add the shortcut and its expanded phrase. When you type the shortcut, choose the expanded phrase from the suggestion bar. Menu wording may differ by software version; Samsung describes the feature in its keyboard personalization guide.

If autocorrect is not working as expected
- Check both controls: Predictive text and Auto replace do different jobs. Confirm that Auto replace is enabled for the language you are using.
- Check language and app coverage: Auto replace may have a language-specific switch. If your settings show Suggest text corrections and Manage apps, check whether corrections are enabled for the app where you are typing.
- Look for an alternate route: Search Settings for “Samsung Keyboard,” or tap the keyboard toolbar’s gear icon. Samsung warns that labels and available settings vary across models, carriers and software versions.
- Check for updates: Samsung recommends checking for device software and related-app updates when troubleshooting predictive text. Its Galaxy predictive-text troubleshooting guide provides the relevant instructions.
There is also a narrow language-specific exception: Samsung Japan says Japanese predictive text cannot be toggled on Android 16 and later. This guidance applies to Japanese input in Japan, not to Samsung phones or languages generally: Samsung Japan: Japanese predictive text on Android 16.
