The Hedkayse One is a foldable urban cycling helmet designed to take routine knocks and pack down between rides. Its trade-offs are substantial: 2019 independent reviewers found it heavy and warm, with only basic fit adjustment, and Hedkayse now says cycle helmet production is paused. Treat it as a product to assess only if you find a specific unit—not as a helmet you can assume is currently available.
Is the Hedkayse One available to buy?
Hedkayse’s cycling page says, “We’ve hit pause on our cycle helmet production—for now,” while the team focuses on a rugby headguard. That statement makes current availability uncertain; it does not establish that no remaining stock exists. If you find a listing, check the seller, the exact model and size, return terms, and whether the helmet’s certification label matches your country’s requirements. A link shown in a 2019 review is not evidence of present inventory.
What is the Hedkayse One like?
The One is an urban cycling helmet built around Hedkayse’s Enkayse liner rather than a conventional expanded-polystyrene liner. It folds to a smaller shape for carrying and is intended to tolerate everyday knocks. Those ideas suit a commuter who values stowage and durability between rides, but the helmet’s bulk and comfort compromises matter during use.
Weight and dimensions
Hedkayse lists an approximate weight of 495 g and gives dimensions of 21 × 30 × 14 cm unfolded and 11 × 36 × 14 cm folded. In its 2019 review, road.cc measured 496 g, 21 × 27 × 14 cm unfolded and 14 × 29 × 14 cm folded. These are different sources and measurements, not a single standardized comparison. road.cc also reported that the helmet came with a 20 × 35 × 14 cm carry bag.

Fit and adjustment
Hedkayse gives a one-size fit range of 49–58.5 cm. That range does not guarantee a secure fit for an individual head: try the helmet on and check that it sits level, stays in place when fastened, and can be adjusted comfortably. road.cc described a basic rear strap and side-buckle arrangement rather than an internal fit system. The Bicycle Helmet Safety Institute says its own attempts to fit the helmet did not achieve a secure fit; that is the organization’s reported experience, not a regulator’s finding.
Ventilation and ride comfort
road.cc’s reviewer described four lengthwise vents and found the helmet warmer than many alternatives. New Atlas’s 2019 reviewer also noted the weight and found the folding less compelling than expected. These are dated reviewer impressions, not current comparative testing, but they identify the main practical compromises to check if you can try a helmet in person.

How should you interpret the multi-impact claim?
Hedkayse says its laboratory studies simulated more than 100 high-speed impacts and that performance remained above the EN 1078 expected standard. This is a manufacturer claim; the underlying complete test report has not been assessed here, and the quoted figure is not an independently verified statistic. road.cc explicitly said its reviewer did not perform safety testing. The Bicycle Helmet Safety Institute has questioned how the repeated-impact claim is presented, based on its own assessment.
A multi-impact material claim does not establish that the helmet is safer overall than another helmet, nor does it mean a helmet should remain in service after a crash. Assess the actual unit, its condition, fit, and certification rather than treating the claim as a substitute for those checks.

Where is the Hedkayse One certified?
Hedkayse says the One is certified to EN 1078 for the UK and Europe for cycling, skateboarding, and roller-skating. The company says other activities require additional certification, and that the product is certified only for EU EN 1078 until broader regional certification is achieved. New Atlas reported in June 2019 that it was not then road legal in Australia or the United States; that historical statement should not be treated as a current legal determination. Certification rules and accepted labels vary by jurisdiction, so inspect the certification label on the particular helmet and check local requirements before using it.
Who should consider the Hedkayse One?
- Potential fit: An urban rider who prioritizes folding and carrying a helmet between rides and can verify a secure fit.
- Possible deal-breakers: A rider sensitive to weight or heat, or anyone who needs more precise fit adjustment.
- Before paying: Confirm the seller and availability, inspect the condition and label, and establish that the helmet is suitable for your location and intended activity.
The 2019 reviews provide useful context, not a current price or present-day product test. road.cc listed a £150 price and rated the helmet 6/10; New Atlas also reported a UK£150 price. Those figures are historical and should not be read as today’s price.
