Superkop is a hand-operated espresso machine, not an objectively proven maker of the “best” espresso. Its appeal is the manual ritual: you prepare the coffee, add hot water and pull a lever to drive a piston through the grounds. The available sources describe its design and workflow, but do not provide independent taste comparisons against other machines.
How does the Superkop work?
Superkop describes its mechanism as “a direct lever-to-piston system.” Pulling the lever pushes a piston through hot water and coffee grounds; a gas spring returns the lever. The water chamber is transparent, so you can see the water level and extraction activity. The machine is described as having no electronics, and it can be set up on a countertop or mounted on a wall. Superkop’s product page provides the manufacturer’s specifications and repair resources.
The listed specifications are a 58 mm basket, a weight of 9.75 kg and dimensions of 420 × 420 × 230 mm. The listed package includes the machine, a stainless-steel portafilter with an 18 g double basket, a standalone base, an illustrated manual, a quick-start guide and a certificate of authenticity. Bundles and specifications can vary by sales region, so check the local product page for the exact configuration before buying.
What do you need to make espresso with it?
You need coffee grounds, a way to grind beans if you are not using pre-ground coffee, hot water, and the portafilter and basket supplied with the machine. Superkop’s distributor guide outlines this workflow:
#1 Best Overall
- HIGH-QUALITY COMPONENTS: SUPERKOP features a powder-coated aluminum outer shell and steel inner components. The lever and 58mm portafilter are crafted from polished stainless steel. The specialized water cup is constructed from polycarbonate material, chosen for its capacity to retain hot water temperature without requiring pre-heating. It features an original portafilter design that slides straight forward to lock into the machine. You can also purchase a bottomless portafilter as espresso & coffee accessory.
- PORTABLE: Suitable for travel and camping, non-electric, maintenance free best espresso and coffee tool, machine.
- BARISTA ESPRESSO AT HOME: Forget about typical coffee makers and espresso machines for home. With the Superkop, you have a completely manual espresso maker that can produce professional quality shots of espresso from the comfort of your home, or wherever you are. Simply add 60ml of water heated to 203°F and a dose of up to 18 grams and extract for 25-30 seconds.
- QUALITY ITALIAN ESPRESSO: While a traditional manual espresso machine has a lever that sends water through coffee grounds in one firm motion, the SUPERKOP uses a 1:40 displacement mechanism. This gradually applies more pressure through 5-6 smooth and easy strokes. The one-way valve lets a pneumatic spring smoothly bring the lever back to its original position while keeping the pressure intact between pumps. There’s a button to release pressure once the extraction is finished. Also, a safety valve is there to release pressure at 20 bars.
- EASY CLEANING & LIFETIME SUPPORT: SUPERKOP doesn't require any warm-up and is virtually maintenance-free. Just remove the coffee puck, rinse the portafilter and water cup, and you're ready to enjoy your coffee. No need for tedious tasks like backflushing, descaling, or replacing heating elements.
- Grind the coffee, or prepare pre-ground coffee.
- Fill the portafilter and tamp the grounds.
- Attach the water cup and add boiling water.
- Place the portafilter-and-water-cup combination in the machine.
- Pull the lever down six times.
The guide gives one suggested double-espresso recipe: 18 g of ground coffee, 60 ml of water at 95°C and a 25–30 second extraction. These are distributor recommendations, not independently validated universal settings. The right grind, dose and extraction time can change with the coffee and your preferences. The guide also names manual and electric grinders as options; a grinder is useful when starting with whole beans, but the machine does not require a particular grinder model. Read the distributor’s Superkop guide.
How many times do you pull the lever?
The distributor’s described workflow calls for six downward lever pulls. Treat that as the guide’s operating instruction, rather than as a promise that every coffee or recipe will produce the same result. The guide also discusses pressure, but the available sources do not establish independently measured shot consistency or pressure performance.

Who is Superkop suited to?
Superkop is aimed at people who enjoy taking part in espresso preparation. You dose and tamp the coffee, handle hot water and operate the lever yourself. That tactile, visible process may suit someone who values involvement and does not need an electric machine. If you want one-touch preparation or minimal hands-on work, this workflow is a poor match. These are conclusions about the steps involved, not independent test results on ease of use or cup quality. The company presents the product as an espresso ritual on its homepage.
What is established—and what is not—about “the best espresso”?
“Best” depends on taste and on what matters to the drinker: the cup, the preparation experience, convenience or control. The available sources are from the manufacturer, a distributor and a retailer; they do not offer a controlled head-to-head tasting or an independent consumer survey. They therefore support explaining how Superkop works, but not declaring it better-tasting than other espresso setups.

- Precision 3-12Bar Pressure Control: The industrial dual-lever system with micro-adjustable pressure springs and 360° pressure gauge lets you professionally profile every shot, from gentle 3Bar pre-infusion to full 12Bar extraction.
- Commercial-Grade Heavy Duty Construction: Crafted from solid 4mm stainless steel with brass reinforcements, this 3.8kg (8.4lb) espresso maker delivers unmatched durability and vibration-free stability during extraction - built to last decades of daily use.
- Cafe-Quality Espresso at Home: Thick thermal-stable brew chamber maintains ideal temperature while the commercial 58mm portafilter creates perfect crema.
- Engineered for Coffee Perfectionists: No plastic parts - just overbuilt steel levers, food-grade shower screens, and sealed pistons that eliminate channeling for consistently balanced extractions.
- Complete Barista Control: Adjust pre-infusion time, water temperature (92°-98°C), and pressure curves to unlock endless flavor possibilities - the ultimate tool for serious espresso enthusiasts.
For a meaningful comparison with another machine, consider how much work you do, whether it needs electricity or particular placement, what equipment comes in the box, and what support is available where you live. A claim about superior cup quality would need credible independent comparative testing or a blind tasting, neither of which is established here.

Superkop emphasizes repairability, long service life and a small number of mechanical parts, and its product page links to manuals and repair guides. A distributor says parts are replaceable. These are design and support claims, not proof of a particular lifespan.

Warranty and after-sales terms depend on the seller and market. A US retailer advertises its own support and warranty, while a Japanese distributor’s release reported terms for Japan at the time of publication; neither establishes current terms elsewhere. Confirm the warranty, service arrangements, spare-parts availability and return policy with the seller you plan to use. Pro Coffee Gear’s listing describes that retailer’s offer; it should not be treated as a universal warranty.
For historical context only, a Japanese distributor release reported a list price of ¥139,700 including tax and a two-year warranty when it was published. Those were Japan-specific claims at that time, not a current price or a general warranty promise. The original distributor release is in Japanese.
