To log in to PlayStation Network, connect your PS4 or PS5 to the internet and sign in with your PlayStation account. On PS5, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Sign in. On PS4, go to Settings > Account Management > Sign in.
Sign in on a PS5
- From the home screen, open Settings.
- Select Users and Accounts > Account > Sign in.
- Enter your PlayStation account sign-in details and follow the prompts. If your account uses a passkey or two-step verification, complete that step when prompted.
Sign in on a PS4
- From the home screen, open Settings > Account Management > Sign in.
- Enter your PlayStation account sign-in details and follow the prompts.
- If asked whether to activate the console as your Primary PS4, choose Yes or Do Not Activate according to your preference.
Sony says you generally remain signed in after your first sign-in until you sign out. A system software update or network outage can sign you out. PlayStation Support’s sign-in and sign-out guide covers both consoles.
If you can’t sign in
Work through these checks in order. They help distinguish a credentials problem from a console, network, or account-access issue.
Check your sign-in ID and email verification
Your sign-in ID is the email address associated with your PlayStation account. If the address has not been verified, search your inbox for “PlayStation verify” and follow the verification link. Check your spam folder if the message is not in your inbox.

Update the console and check the connection
- Install the latest system software update available for your PS4 or PS5.
- Turn off the console and router, then turn them back on and try again.
- If the console is on Wi-Fi, try a wired connection to see whether the wireless connection is causing the problem. A wired connection will not fix incorrect account details or a verification issue.
- For continuing connection problems, follow Sony’s connectivity and repairs guidance. For a possible service interruption, check PlayStation Status.
Test access to Account Management
Try signing in to PlayStation Account Management online. If you cannot access the account there either, Sony says it may have been suspended. Check Sony’s account suspension guidance rather than assuming the reason.
Recover a forgotten password or passkey problem
If you forgot your password or cannot use your passkey, use Sony’s password reset and account recovery guidance. If you forgot the sign-in ID, cannot provide account verification details, lost access to the registered email, or see account details changed without permission, contact Sony through its Online Assistant.

Passkeys and two-step verification
Passkeys
A passkey replaces a password as a sign-in method. If your account is set up to use one, follow the passkey prompt instead of entering a password. If it is unavailable, use Sony’s account recovery guidance.
Two-step verification codes
With two-step verification (2SV), Sony documents verification codes delivered by text message or through an authenticator app. To set up 2SV, use the relevant path:

Sony says a code is valid for 10 minutes after the sign-in attempt. If it expires, request another code. If a text does not arrive, try resending it, restarting your phone, and checking airplane mode and mobile signal. If the issue continues, contact PlayStation Support for 2SV issues.
Use a backup code if you cannot receive a verification code
Sony’s documented recovery flow provides 10 backup codes per account; each code can be used once. Keep unused codes somewhere you can access if your phone is unavailable.

- PS5: Enter your sign-in details, then enter a backup code on the verification screen.
- PS4: On the verification screen, press the triangle button, select Trouble Receiving Code?, then Sign In Using Backup Code and enter an unused code.
If you have no backup code and cannot access the registered phone, Sony directs you to its Online Assistant for 2SV recovery.

- Use a passkey if you want to replace password sign-in, and use a different password for each online account if you use passwords.
- Do not share account details or scan unexpected QR codes from people you do not trust.
- Sign out after using a shared device.
- A password manager can help generate and store unique passwords; it is optional and not required to sign in.
