The right way to transfer Samsung texts depends on what you want to do with them. To read and reply to recent messages on a Windows PC, use Microsoft Phone Link. To keep a computer backup for restoring messages to a phone later, use Samsung Smart Switch—but its message backup files cannot be read on the computer. To share only a few messages, use your messaging app’s Share option and Quick Share.
Choose the method that matches your goal

Read and reply to messages on a Windows PC with Phone Link
Phone Link is for linked access, not for making a permanent, readable message archive. Microsoft’s current requirements are a PC running Windows 10 with the October 2022 update or later, or Windows 11; a phone running Android 10 or later; and both devices connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Exact features depend on device compatibility. See Microsoft’s Phone Link requirements and setup steps.
- On the PC, open Phone Link and choose the Android phone setup option.
- On the Samsung phone, open or install Link to Windows. On supported Samsung models, it may already be installed; Microsoft says supported apps can also be installed from Google Play or the Galaxy Store.
- Sign in with the same Microsoft account on both devices, then scan the QR code shown on the PC or follow the manual pairing option.
- Approve the requested permissions on the phone. After linking, open the Messages area in Phone Link to read and reply.
Microsoft says Phone Link supports SMS and MMS, with RCS available on select Samsung devices. It shows messages sent or received within the last 30 days, and “You can’t manage or delete messages on your PC.” Consider the message permission before granting it: Microsoft warns that access can expose sensitive messages, including two-factor authentication texts. Back up messages to a computer with Smart Switch
Use Smart Switch when your goal is to preserve phone data for recovery, not to open your texts as documents on a computer. Samsung states that messages in PC or Mac backup files cannot be viewed on the computer; they can be read after they are transferred to a phone. Samsung’s explanation of Smart Switch message backups.

Back up the Samsung phone
- Install Smart Switch on the computer.
- Connect the Galaxy phone to the computer with a data-capable cable that fits both ports. Samsung’s Korea support instructions list a Samsung data cable among the preparation items. Samsung Korea’s PC backup workflow.
- Open Smart Switch, choose Backup, select the items to back up, and start the backup.
Restore messages to a phone
To read backed-up messages, connect the phone to the computer, choose Restore in Smart Switch, select Messages, and run the restore. Samsung says menu names and paths can vary by model, software, and app version, so the screens may not match exactly on every Galaxy phone. Share selected messages with Quick Share
For a handful of messages rather than a complete history, open the conversation in your messaging app, select the message or messages, tap Share, choose Quick Share, and select an available destination device or contact. This shares selected content; it is not a full archive or a way to export every conversation. Samsung’s Quick Share steps.

Use cloud backup to restore messages to a phone
Samsung documents backing up messages through Samsung Cloud and restoring them while signed in to the Samsung account. Its Google Drive guidance says backed-up texts can be restored after a phone reset or on a new phone. These are phone recovery routes; the cited instructions do not describe a way to read those backups as desktop documents. Samsung’s cloud backup and restore guidance.
