GigaDevice’s GD25UF 1.2 V SPI NOR flash family now spans six densities from 8 Mb to 256 Mb, giving designers more capacity choices for hosts built around a 1.2 V supply. The company announced the expanded range on March 10, 2026; its product selector lists the six capacities and marks the listed entries as mass production. A compatible voltage alone does not guarantee a fit: check the specific part’s interface, timing, package, temperature grade, and the host’s I/O requirements.

What is the GD25UF series?

GD25UF is GigaDevice’s family of serial NOR flash memory devices. NOR flash provides nonvolatile storage: data remains stored without power, making it useful for firmware, configuration data, and other code or data that a system needs to retain. The expanded density range adds more capacity choices within this family; it is not a claim that every part suits every host or application.

GigaDevice describes the family as operating at an ultra-low supply voltage intended for advanced SoCs and processors with a 1.2 V core voltage. The manufacturer’s current product page specifies an operating supply range of 1.14 V to 1.26 V and says the devices can directly interface I/O with a host. These are vendor product claims, not a substitute for checking the selected device’s electrical limits and the host’s I/O rail.

What density options does GD25UF have?

GigaDevice announced an expanded range from 8 Mb to 256 Mb on March 10, 2026. Its product selector lists six densities:

  • 8 Mb
  • 16 Mb
  • 32 Mb
  • 64 Mb
  • 128 Mb
  • 256 Mb

These capacities are specified in megabits, not megabytes. For example, 256 Mb is 32 MB when expressed in bytes, before accounting for how a system uses or formats the storage. Compare the capacity with the firmware or configuration payload and allow room for updates, recovery images, and other stored data where relevant.

Does GD25UF work with a 1.2 V SoC?

It may, if the exact flash part’s supply and I/O requirements match the SoC and board. The GD25UF page gives a 1.14 V–1.26 V operating supply range and says direct I/O interfacing with the host is supported. That makes the family relevant to designs with a 1.2 V rail, but the phrase “1.2 V SoC” is not enough to establish compatibility.

  • Verify the selected part’s command set, SPI modes, clock timing, and read behavior against the host controller and boot requirements.
  • Match the orderable part’s package and temperature grade to the board and operating environment.

GigaDevice says the lower-voltage family can simplify power design for advanced SoCs with a 1.2 V core voltage. Whether it removes a regulator or level shifter in a particular board depends on the complete power and I/O design.

How much lower power does 1.2 V SPI NOR use?

GigaDevice states that GD25UF can use up to 33% less power in Normal Mode under the same current conditions, and up to 70% less in Low Power Mode at the same frequency, compared with traditional 1.8 V SPI NOR. These are manufacturer comparisons, not independent measurements; the stated operating mode and comparison condition matter. The actual result in a device depends on its workload, frequency, and selected part.

When estimating system power, distinguish active reads and writes from standby or low-power periods. Confirm the selected part’s current figures and mode-entry behavior in its datasheet, then use the expected activity profile rather than applying the headline percentages to the whole system.

What speed and reliability figures are reported?

Embedded.com’s coverage of the family expansion reports Single, Dual, Quad, and Quad DTR SPI modes, maximum clocks of 120 MHz in STR and 80 MHz in DTR, and throughput of up to about 80 MB/s. It also reports up to 100,000 program/erase cycles and up to 20 years of data retention. These figures are publication-reported summaries; check the exact part’s datasheet, test conditions, and operating limits before relying on them in a design.

Maximum clock and throughput are not interchangeable: realized transfer performance depends on the selected read mode, controller support, command and address overhead, and the device’s timing requirements. A headline maximum is not a guarantee of sustained application-level throughput.

Which packages and temperature grades are available?

The manufacturer’s selector shows package options across selected entries including SOP, WSON, USON, TFBGA, and WLCSP, as well as multiple temperature ranges. Availability varies by part. For instance, the selector’s GD25UF256E entry lists SOP8, SOP16, WSON8, and WLCSP options; that does not mean every density is offered in those packages or grades.

What applications is the expanded range aimed at?

GigaDevice’s announcement names AI ASIC platforms, hearables, and battery-operated devices. Embedded.com describes higher-density use for firmware and configuration storage in AI servers and high-performance computing, and lower-density use in constrained designs such as IoT devices, wearables, medical devices, and optical communications. These are application areas cited by the company or publication, not evidence of specific customer deployments.

The practical selection question is whether the capacity, voltage, interface, package, and operating grade fit the design. A small connected device and a high-performance computing platform may have very different storage needs even when both use serial NOR.

How to choose a GD25UF part

  1. Size the storage. Choose a listed density that accommodates the firmware or data payload, plus any update, rollback, or recovery space the product requires.
  2. Validate power and I/O. Check the flash’s supply range and input/output thresholds against the board rails and host specifications.
  3. Match the interface. Confirm the controller supports the required SPI mode and that the selected part’s timing meets boot and runtime needs.
  4. Check board fit and environment. Verify the exact package, pinout, temperature range, and assembly constraints for the orderable part.
  5. Review sourcing and lifecycle details. Confirm the datasheet and current manufacturer selector for the exact part number, then check regional stock and seller authorization with GigaDevice or an authorized distributor.

Where can you buy GD25UF flash?

GigaDevice’s official product selector marks its listed GD25UF entries as “MP,” defined there as mass production, and provides a route to its sales network. Mass-production status is not a statement of local inventory. Contact the manufacturer’s sales network or an authorized component distributor to verify regional availability, the exact part number, and seller authorization before ordering.
