EE Times Europe’s December 22, 2023 year-end roundup selected five memorable stories spanning quantum science, semiconductor leadership, tiny machine learning, timekeeping and RISC-V. The list is an editorial selection—not a measured ranking by readership or importance.

What the 2023 roundup selected

Anne-Françoise Pelé’s roundup presents five stories in its printed order. They range from interviews with researchers and technology executives to features on emerging technical fields.

Story Format and subject What the roundup says
“Physics Nobel Prize Winner Alain Aspect Talks Quantum Computing” Interview; quantum computing and quantum phenomena Aspect discussed quantum computing, entanglement and other quantum phenomena.
“Intel, Nvidia, AMD: Exclusive Conversations With the CTOs” Interviews; semiconductor company leadership The conversations featured Intel’s Greg Lavender, Nvidia’s Michael Kagan and AMD’s Mark Papermaster.
“Pete Warden on tinyML and ‘Plug and Play’ Machine Learning” Interview; tinyML Warden discussed how tinyML had developed over four years and his thoughts about its future.
“Moving Time: Bringing Quantum Clocks Out of the Lab” Technology feature; optical clocks The story’s stated premise is that portable optical clocks could change how the world measures time and space.
“Startups Help RISC-V Reshape Computer Architecture” Interviews; processor architecture EE Times Europe asked Semidynamics, Axiomise and Agile Analog about the future of RISC-V, described as an open-standard instruction set architecture (ISA).

How to interpret “top five”

The roundup calls these “memorable stories,” but supplies no view counts, voting results, scoring method or other evidence of a popularity ranking. Its order is the order printed by the publication, not a demonstrated ranking of the most-read or objectively most important stories.

Alain Aspect on entanglement and other quantum phenomena

The roundup quotes Physics Nobel Prize winner Alain Aspect discussing work beyond entanglement: “The Nobel Prize was awarded for showing the extraordinary properties of entanglement, but I worked on many other amazing quantum phenomena, including cooling atoms below the one-photon recoil,” Aspect said in an interview with EE Times Europe.
