To turn off most Galaxy Z Flip phones, open the phone, press and hold Side + Volume Down until the power menu appears, then tap Power off and confirm if prompted. You can also open Quick settings, tap the Power icon, and choose Power off.
Turn off your Galaxy Z Flip with the buttons
- Open the phone. Samsung notes that button-shortcut behavior can vary when a Z Flip is closed. Samsung’s Side button guidance includes this caveat.
- Press and hold the Side button and Volume Down button together until the power menu appears.
- Tap Power off. If a confirmation appears, tap Power off again. Samsung’s Galaxy phone shutdown instructions and the Galaxy Z Flip 6 SM-F741B manual describe this route.
Turn it off from Quick settings
- Swipe down from the top of the screen to open the notification panel or Quick settings. On some models, swipe down with two fingers to open the full Quick settings panel.
- Tap the Power icon.
- Choose Power off, then confirm if prompted. This screen-based option is useful if you prefer not to use the buttons; Samsung documents it in its shutdown guidance.
If holding the Side button opens Bixby
The Side button’s press-and-hold action may be set to launch Bixby or another feature instead of opening the power menu. Where available, change it in Settings → Advanced features → Side key (or Side button) → Press and hold → Power off menu. Labels and availability can differ by model and software version. Samsung’s Galaxy power-off guidance covers the setting and supported Galaxy Z Flip models.

If the phone is frozen
If the screen does not respond, the button hold is a forced restart, not a normal shutdown. Press and hold the Side/Power button and Volume Down together to restart the unresponsive device. Samsung says the hold may take up to 60 seconds on its U.S. troubleshooting page. Use this recovery step only when the phone is unresponsive; it restarts the phone rather than leaving it powered off.
