To turn off a Samsung Galaxy A54, press and hold the Side key and Volume Down together until the power menu appears. Tap Power off, then tap Power off again to confirm. You can also open the same menu from the Quick panel.
Turn off the Galaxy A54 with its buttons
- Press and hold the Side key and Volume Down at the same time until the power menu appears. Samsung’s Galaxy A54 instructions document this button combination.
- Tap Power off.
- Tap Power off again to confirm.
Use the Quick panel instead
- Swipe down from the top of the screen twice to expand the Quick panel.
- Tap the Power icon. Its position can vary with the software version and panel layout.
- Tap Power off, then tap Power off again to confirm.

Set a long press of the Side key to show power options
If holding the Side key alone opens an assistant instead of the power menu, change its press-and-hold action:
- Open Settings.
- Go to Advanced features → Side button → Press and hold.
- Select Power off menu.
Samsung’s Japan support page, updated April 9, 2026, says that on covered devices—including the Galaxy A54 5G—Android 15 changes the long-press behavior to launch Gemini by default. Menu wording and availability may differ by region, carrier, or software version.

If the Galaxy A54 is frozen
For an unresponsive phone, press and hold the Side key and Volume Down until the device shuts down. Samsung says this can take up to 60 seconds and may restart the phone rather than leave it powered off. This is a forced troubleshooting action, not the normal shutdown method for a responsive phone. If the phone still does not respond, Samsung recommends requesting service through its support guidance.

Why holding the Side key may not turn it off
The Galaxy A54 has a Side key, but a long press does not always open power controls. On covered Android 15 devices, Samsung says the default action is to launch Gemini. Use Side key + Volume Down or the Quick panel to reach the power menu, or set the Side key’s press-and-hold action to Power off menu.
