On a Samsung Galaxy A23, press the Side key and Volume Down together to take a screenshot. To capture more than what is currently visible, use Scroll capture on the screenshot toolbar if it appears. Screenshot gestures and toolbar options can vary by app and software version.
Take a screenshot with the buttons
- Open the screen you want to capture.
- Press the Side key and Volume Down at the same time, then release them.
- Look for the screenshot preview or toolbar to appear. If the capture does not work, see the troubleshooting checks below.
This button combination is the clearest A23-specific method in Samsung Community guidance. Samsung’s support page identifies the Galaxy A23 5G model SM-A236E/DSN and provides manuals for Android 12, 13, and 14; menu labels and optional features can differ across regional models and software editions. Samsung Community Europe’s A23 screenshot discussion and Samsung’s A23 5G support page are useful references for those distinctions.
Capture a long or scrolling page
- Open a page or screen that can scroll.
- Take a normal screenshot with the Side key and Volume Down.
- When the screenshot toolbar appears, tap Scroll capture to add more content below the visible area.
- Repeat the scroll-capture action as needed, then stop when the captured image includes the section you want.
The Scroll capture option may not appear in every app or software version. Samsung’s general Galaxy screenshot guidance describes the toolbar option, but does not establish that it is available in every A23 app or build. Samsung Members Community’s general screenshot guidance covers the toolbar and app restrictions.
Check whether Palm swipe to capture is available
Some Samsung phones offer a palm gesture, but A23 user reports conflict about whether the feature is present. Check the phone rather than assuming it is supported:

- Open Settings.
- Tap Advanced features, then Motions and gestures.
- Look for Palm swipe to capture. If shown, switch it on and follow the on-screen guidance to try the gesture.
If that setting is absent, use the button method. Samsung Community Europe’s A23 discussion includes differing reports about this gesture, so its availability should not be treated as universal.

Samsung’s general Galaxy guidance says screenshots are saved in the Gallery app. Open Gallery and look for the recent image. The exact album organization may vary by phone software.

Troubleshoot a screenshot that will not capture
- Check the button press: Press Side key and Volume Down together, rather than one after the other.
- Try another screen: Some apps or protected content block screenshots. If the buttons work elsewhere, the restriction may belong to that app or content rather than the phone.
- Look for the gesture setting: If Palm swipe is missing from Settings, that optional method is not available in the current configuration; use the buttons instead.
- Check for the toolbar: Scroll capture is only usable when its option appears after a capture, and it is intended for content that can scroll.
- Match instructions to your model: The Galaxy A23 has regional and software variations. Samsung’s support page for model SM-A236E/DSN lists Android 12, 13, and 14 manuals; consult the manual matching your device where menu names or options differ.
