Taiyo Yuden and Ansoft announced an RF component library for Ansoft Designer and Nexxim on November 10, 2004. It supplied models for capacitors, ferrite beads, and multilayer inductors, combining S-parameter-based behavior with an optional frequency-dependent equivalent-circuit model. The announcement claimed the latter could simulate four times faster; that was a vendor-reported comparison, not an independently verified benchmark.

What the 2004 library was for

The library was designed to help engineers represent Taiyo Yuden surface-mount components in RF-related equipment designs. The announcement named wireless LAN equipment, car-navigation systems, base stations, and cellular handsets as intended application areas. It described the library as covering both electrical response and mechanical layout features relevant to manufacturing. EE Times reported the announcement on November 12, 2004, two days after its Pittsburgh dateline.

The targeted tools were Ansoft Designer and Nexxim. This was engineering data for circuit simulation and layout work, not a physical product or a general-purpose library for every simulator.

Component families and model options

Included components

  • Capacitors
  • Ferrite beads
  • Multilayer inductors

These were the three principal passive surface-mount component types identified in the contemporary announcement. It did not provide a verified part-number list in the material available here.

S-parameter and equivalent-circuit models

The announcement said the models used S-parameter data based on Taiyo Yuden’s characterization laboratory. It also described a frequency-dependent equivalent-circuit option selectable through a component model attribute. Toshi Wantanabe, identified by EDN as Taiyo Yuden (U.S.A.)’s vice president and general manager, said the equivalent-circuit data allowed simulations “up to four times faster.” EDN reported that claim; it is a company statement comparing the equivalent-circuit option with the S-parameter-based model, not an independently measured result.

Wantanabe also said the simulations’ accuracy could reduce unnecessary prototype cycles and speed time-to-market. That was the company’s rationale for the library, not evidence of a measured reduction in prototyping or development time.

Can you still download the original Ansoft Designer/Nexxim library?

Current availability of the exact 2004 package is not established by the available manufacturer pages. The 2004 announcement said the library could be downloaded from Taiyo Yuden’s website and configured for Ansoft Designer/Nexxim, but that historical statement does not confirm that the same files remain hosted or that they work with any particular present-day software release.

A legacy installation-manual result describes a Nexxim engine and a Taiyo Yuden user-library setup in ANSYS Designer. It shows that a setup procedure existed, but does not establish a supported-version range or prove that the original package can still be obtained. For an existing project, confirm package provenance and software compatibility with Taiyo Yuden or an authoritative archived package source before relying on it.

How the historical release compares with Taiyo Yuden’s current listing

Taiyo Yuden’s present component-library index lists simulator libraries for microwave-circuit, PI, and SI applications. Its current ANSYS Electronics Desktop Circuit Simulator entry is labeled “Jun. 2026 Ver. 4.6.” That current library is useful context, but its listing does not demonstrate that the 2004 Ansoft Designer/Nexxim library is still available or compatible with current software.

Aspect 2004 Ansoft Designer/Nexxim announcement Current ANSYS Electronics Desktop Circuit Simulator listing
Simulator named Ansoft Designer and Nexxim, according to the 2004 announcement ANSYS Electronics Desktop Circuit Simulator; listed as Jun. 2026 Ver. 4.6 by Taiyo Yuden
Component coverage Capacitors, ferrite beads, and multilayer inductors Standard models for multilayer ceramic capacitors, inductors, ferrite-bead inductors, aluminum electrolytic capacitors, and ceramic RF devices, according to Taiyo Yuden’s current page
Model and measurement information S-parameter-based models and an optional frequency-dependent equivalent circuit are described in the announcement The manufacturer page lists simulator details and S-parameter measurement conditions; this does not establish that its model formats or conditions match the 2004 package
Installation and product documentation The 2004 announcement described configuration for Ansoft Designer/Nexxim; present documentation for the original package is not established Taiyo Yuden lists an installation and usage guide and a list of included products
Download status and size Present availability and file size are not established The manufacturer page shows a 9.6 MB ZIP download

The 2026 version label and 9.6 MB size refer specifically to the current ANSYS Electronics Desktop Circuit Simulator download, not the historical library. Taiyo Yuden’s current data page says it does not warrant the data’s functionality, completeness, or accuracy, and that using the data does not grant intellectual-property rights; those statements apply to the data page described, not as a broader legal conclusion about other files or uses.

What the announcement does—and does not—establish

  • It establishes the 2004 release’s named simulator targets, component families, and described model approaches.
  • It attributes a four-times simulation-speed comparison to the equivalent-circuit option, without independent benchmark confirmation.
  • It does not establish measured accuracy, prototype-cycle savings, or time-to-market improvements.
  • It does not settle whether the original package remains downloadable or which software versions it supports.
