It may suit a home automation setup if the valve has a listed lever or butterfly handle, the pipe is one of Aqara’s supported sizes, and you have a compatible Aqara Zigbee hub. Aqara also describes pairing it with leak sensors for automatic shutoff, but its published specifications do not establish real-world response time or guarantee protection from water damage.
What the Aqara Valve Controller T1 does
The T1 attaches to an existing pipeline valve and lets you control it through the app or manually. Aqara lists app, manual, timer, and automation control, making the product an actuator for a suitable valve rather than a replacement for the plumbing itself. Aqara announced global availability on November 19, 2024 (Aqara announcement).
Check the valve and pipe before buying
Aqara’s undated specifications page lists lever and butterfly handles and pipe sizes DN15, DN20, and DN25. Those are the stated compatibility categories; the published information does not confirm a fit for every valve that happens to use a pipe in one of those nominal sizes. Check the handle geometry and the actual valve assembly against Aqara’s requirements before purchase or installation.

These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. If your installation uses a different handle style or pipe size, Aqara’s listed values do not establish compatibility.

A compatible Aqara Zigbee hub is required
The Valve Controller T1 connects over Zigbee. Aqara’s product information requires a compatible Aqara Zigbee hub for Aqara integration; the Camera G2H Pro is excluded from the compatible-hub list (Aqara product page). Verify that your specific hub model supports the T1 before relying on it.
Aqara lists support for Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings, Home Assistant, and other platforms. This does not mean the controller connects directly to each platform without Aqara’s hub. Aqara describes Matter operation through a bridge: for Matter-over-bridge use, you also need a Matter controller compatible with the platform you choose. Zigbee connectivity to the Aqara hub and Matter support in a wider smart-home setup are separate requirements.

Leak-sensor automation: intended use, not a response guarantee
Aqara describes pairing the controller with a water leak sensor so a detected leak can trigger valve shutoff. In practice, that automation depends on a compatible hub, a supported sensor and a correctly configured automation. Aqara’s published material establishes the intended workflow, but does not provide an independently verified shutoff response time or reliability result.
Because this is an automated actuator, do not treat the setup as a substitute for appropriate plumbing safeguards or as a guarantee against water damage. Consider how you would detect a failed automation or unavailable hub, and how the valve can be operated manually.

Four AA batteries power the controller
The T1 uses four AA batteries, and Aqara lists four cells in the box. Aqara estimates up to two years of operation when using four fully charged 2900 mAh AA batteries and performing one valve cycle per day. That is the manufacturer’s estimate for those stated conditions, not a guaranteed service life under different batteries, usage patterns, or operating conditions (Aqara product page).
Indoor use only; no water-ingress safeguard
Aqara states: “This device does not provide safeguards against water ingress and is not suitable for outdoor installation.” Keep the controller out of outdoor installations and do not assume it is protected against water exposure or that it provides certified protection against plumbing leaks.

Who should consider the Aqara Valve Controller T1?
- It may fit your setup if your valve has a lever or butterfly handle, the pipe is DN15, DN20, or DN25, and you already have—or plan to add—a compatible Aqara Zigbee hub.
- It is a poor fit on the evidence available if your valve uses another handle type or pipe size, you need outdoor installation, or you expect a stand-alone device without a hub.
- For leak response, treat sensor-triggered closure as a described automation feature, not a tested emergency shutoff guarantee.
Aqara’s specifications make the main decision points clear, but they do not establish independent installation results or comparative performance against other valve actuators. The strongest reason to choose the T1 is a confirmed match for your valve combined with an existing Aqara-based smart-home setup.
