Its stamina-free combat and compact, interconnected world make the sequel a faster, more exploratory action RPG than the original. GamesRadar+ praised its combat variety and strange discoveries, but also criticized camera behavior, exploitable difficulty, and navigation in Nightfall mode. Those trade-offs make it a more open-feeling sequel, not an unqualified improvement for every player.

The US PlayStation Store listed a free Open Beta alongside the full game at the time of the store information cited here. The beta is a separate listing, not the full game.
How does the combat differ from the first game?
The most consequential change is that attacks and evasive movement are no longer restricted by a stamina meter. The official description says combat lets players use multiple tactics to break enemy posture and land critical strikes. The result is a system focused more on choosing a tactic and finding an opening than on rationing stamina.

Shells, weapons, and upgrades
Possessed shells provide different abilities, so your chosen warrior shapes how you approach a fight. Weapons can be upgraded, and sidearms add another option to the melee-focused combat. The resolve mechanic described in GamesRadar+’s review replenishes through successful melee strikes, giving players another resource to manage even though stamina is gone.
What the faster pace means in practice
GamesRadar+ found the pace and combat variety among the sequel’s strengths. Removing stamina restrictions can make encounters feel more fluid, but it does not mean every fight is automatically easier: posture-breaking tactics, shell abilities, and weapon choices still matter. The same review warns that some difficulty can be exploited, so players seeking tightly balanced encounters may find the freedom cuts both ways.
What is exploration like?
The official site describes a compact but interconnected world with an emphasis on free exploration. Its winding paths and hidden rewards give the world a discovery-led structure rather than presenting it as a sequence of isolated arenas. The PlayStation Store description advertises more than 80 dungeons.
GamesRadar+ praised the environmental surprises, while identifying navigation in Nightfall mode as frustrating. That distinction matters: the game’s design encourages detours and discovery, but the review suggests that the route-finding experience is not equally clear in every mode.

| Area | What works | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Combat pace | Stamina-free fighting supports a faster flow and lets you focus on posture breaks, shell abilities, and weapon tactics. | GamesRadar+ says some difficulty can be exploited; this is one outlet’s assessment, not an aggregate verdict. |
| Combat variety | Different shells, sidearms, and weapon upgrades offer several ways to shape encounters. | Players who preferred stamina management as a central constraint may find the new combat less demanding in that specific way. |
| World and secrets | The interconnected setting, winding routes, and hidden rewards encourage exploration; the PlayStation Store description lists more than 80 dungeons. | GamesRadar+ found navigation frustrating in Nightfall mode. |
| Camera | Not stated as a strength in the GamesRadar+ review. | GamesRadar+ flagged camera behavior as a drawback. |
These judgments reflect GamesRadar+’s review, not universal player or critic consensus. The US PlayStation Store showed an average of 4.41 out of 5 from 13,353 ratings when accessed on October 4, 2026. The store says reviews come from verified owners and are moderated; that live platform rating is not a critic score and can change.

If you want an action RPG with faster, stamina-free combat, distinct playable shells, and an interconnected world built around exploration, the sequel’s central changes are compelling. The case is less clear if you want consistently readable navigation or carefully controlled difficulty: GamesRadar+ specifically noted camera issues, difficulty exploits, and Nightfall navigation problems. Treat those as informed review cautions rather than settled consensus, and weigh them against the combat and exploration strengths that outlet praised.

Before choosing an edition, compare the price and contents shown in your own regional storefront. The Steam announcement also reported that the beta had 600,000 downloads, more than 6 million video views, and a 93% positive rating on July 8, 2026; the announcement passage does not identify the platform for that rating, so it should not be read as a Steam rating. Earlier, Playstack reported 250,000 beta downloads over a weekend, as covered by PC Gamer on June 9, 2026. These are separate milestones with different time windows.
