To control Samsung Keyboard’s word suggestions, go to Settings > General management > Samsung Keyboard settings and adjust Predictive text. If you want suggestions to stay visible but do not want the keyboard changing words automatically, turn off Auto replace instead. The exact menu and available controls vary by device, software version, region, and input language.
Find Samsung Keyboard’s predictive text setting
- Open Settings on your Galaxy device.
- Tap General management > Samsung Keyboard settings.
- Turn Predictive text on or off.
You can also open Samsung Keyboard’s settings by tapping its Settings icon while the keyboard is on screen. If the current path is not present, look under an older path such as Language and input > On-screen keyboard > Samsung Keyboard > Smart typing. Samsung notes that menu names and locations differ across devices and operating-system versions. Samsung UK’s instructions, updated 5 June 2026, also say some predictive-text options are unavailable on older devices and operating systems.
Choose the right control for the behavior you want
“Auto correct” can mean several different keyboard behaviors. Samsung Keyboard has separate controls for suggesting words, automatically replacing them, flagging spelling, and suggesting grammar or phrase corrections.

Samsung Support describes Auto replace this way: “Auto replace will complete or replace the word you are typing with the word it thinks is the most likely for the sentence.” For the distinct spelling and text-correction options, see Samsung Canada’s Samsung Keyboard settings guide, which applies to devices sold in Canada using the default Samsung Keyboard. Feature availability can depend on the device and software.

Stop Samsung Keyboard from changing words automatically
- Open Settings > General management > Samsung Keyboard settings, or open Samsung Keyboard settings from the keyboard’s Settings icon.
- Turn off Auto replace.
- Leave Predictive text on if you still want the keyboard to show suggestions that you can choose yourself.
If you also want spelling underlines or grammar suggestions to stop, review Auto spell check and, where present, Suggest text corrections separately. Turning off Auto replace does not by itself disable those other features.
Remove an unwanted learned word or clear predictions
Remove one word
When an unwanted learned word appears in the suggestion bar, press and hold it, then confirm its removal. Samsung Japan describes the corresponding action as long-pressing the prediction and tapping delete.

Erase personalized predictions
- Open Settings > General management > Samsung Keyboard settings.
- Tap Reset to default settings > Erase personalised predictions.
- Tap Erase to confirm.
This removes all learned predictions, so use it only if you want to erase the keyboard’s personalized learning. Older software may label the option Clear personalised data. These steps reflect Samsung UK’s guidance.

Do not assume that every Galaxy phone, keyboard language, or region has the same switch. Samsung Japan’s guidance, updated 17 September 2026, says the Japanese predictive-text ON/OFF control is unavailable on Android 16 and later; it is present on Android 15 and earlier. That is a Japan-specific note about Japanese input, not a rule established for all languages or regions. Samsung Japan’s article also notes that device, Android, and One UI versions can affect menu names and positions.

If a setting is missing, check that Samsung Keyboard is the active keyboard, open its settings directly from the keyboard if possible, and confirm the input language and software version. A missing control may reflect a version or language difference rather than a hidden universal setting.
