The rectangle—not the text characters—will be the clickable object during the slide show.
Hide a hyperlink’s underline and keep it clickable
Microsoft documents this method for PowerPoint for Microsoft 365, PowerPoint 2024, 2021, 2019, and 2016. It uses a shape as a replacement click target.
- Right-click the linked text and select Remove Hyperlink. The text no longer carries the active link.
- Go to Insert > Shapes and choose Rectangle.
- Draw the rectangle over the linked text, covering the area people should click.
- Right-click the rectangle and select Format Shape.
- In the Format Shape pane, set Fill to No fill and Line to No line. The rectangle becomes visually transparent.
- Select the rectangle itself, not text inside it. Choose Insert > Hyperlink, then enter the destination in the Address box.
- Start Slide Show and click the text area covered by the rectangle to test the link.
Because the shape carries the hyperlink, make sure it covers the intended text area and test the actual click target in Slide Show view. The steps and version scope are documented in Microsoft’s instructions for removing an underline from hyperlink text.
If you only want to change the link’s color
Changing color is a different adjustment: the hyperlink remains on the text, and the underline is not removed by this method.

- One link: Select the hyperlink and choose Home > Font Color.
- Presentation-wide: Choose Design > Variants > Colors > Customize Colors, then adjust the Hyperlink and Followed Hyperlink theme colors.

Why not just clear formatting or press Ctrl+U?
Clear all text formatting can remove underline along with other character formatting such as bold, color, and italics. Microsoft’s cited guidance does not establish it as a reliable way to suppress hyperlink styling in every case while preserving the link, so use the linked-rectangle method when that result matters.

Microsoft documents Ctrl+U on Windows as a shortcut for applying underline to text. Its dedicated instructions for hiding the underline on a linked phrase while retaining clickability use the transparent-shape method instead. The cited instructions do not confirm the same menu sequence for PowerPoint for the web or mobile apps, or document differences among the listed desktop releases.
