The Nikon Z 50 is a DX-format mirrorless camera built around Nikon’s Z mount. Nikon’s published specifications list a 23.5 × 15.7 mm CMOS sensor, 4K UHD recording at up to 30 fps, and Full HD modes up to 120 fps. Those specifications make it worth considering if you want a Z-mount camera and its listed video modes fit your needs. This is a specifications-and-system review, not a hands-on test: no independent image, autofocus, or battery-life results are available here, and current prices and bundles have not been verified.
What the Nikon Z 50 offers
Nikon identifies the Z 50 as a DX-format mirrorless camera with a 23.5 × 15.7 mm CMOS sensor and Nikon Z mount. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. Nikon’s model information lists the sensor and mount.
Nikon USA lists 4K UHD video at 3,840 × 2,160 in 24, 25, and 30 fps modes. Its specifications also list Full HD recording at up to 120 fps, with 100 fps among the listed modes. These are available recording modes; they do not establish measured video quality, autofocus performance while recording, or how well footage fits a particular workflow. See Nikon USA’s specifications for the manufacturer’s full details.
Nikon’s launch release described the body as weighing 14 ounces and included Eye-Detection AF among its launch-era claims. Treat those as Nikon’s statements, not independent measurements or evidence of how the camera performs against current alternatives. Nikon’s launch release provides that context.

Which lenses can you use?
Nikon Z lenses
The Z 50 uses Nikon’s Z mount. Nikon’s online manual includes guidance for the Z DX 16–50mm VR and Z DX 50–250mm VR lenses, both named in Nikon’s materials. Those examples give buyers a starting point for understanding the native lens system; the specifications reviewed here do not establish image quality for either lens. Check the exact lens and bundle contents before buying, because kit contents can vary by seller and market. Nikon’s Z 50 manual covers the camera and these lenses.
F-mount lenses and adapters
Nikon says F-mount NIKKOR lenses can be used with a mount adapter, but restrictions apply. Do not assume every lens-and-adapter combination will support every feature: check Nikon’s compatibility information for the exact lens, adapter, and camera before relying on a particular function. Nikon USA’s product specifications note adapter use and its restrictions.

What to check before buying or updating
- Kit contents: Confirm whether the listing is for the body alone or includes a lens, and verify which lens is included. Bundle contents are not established here.
- Current price and condition: Compare listings in your market and check whether a camera is new or used; current prices, stock, and used condition have not been verified.
- Lens compatibility: If you already own F-mount lenses, verify each lens and adapter combination rather than assuming full compatibility.
- Firmware: Nikon’s Download Center listed Z 50 firmware C version 2.60 dated 2025-04-23. That is a dated entry, not confirmation of the latest release today. Check Nikon’s regional support page for the current version and installation instructions before updating. Nikon Download Center: Z 50.
Who should consider the Z 50?
The documented fit is clearest for someone seeking a Nikon DX mirrorless body with a Z mount, who is comfortable choosing among native Z lenses or verifying an adapted F-mount setup, and whose video needs fit the listed 4K and Full HD modes. The available evidence does not support a performance-based verdict on autofocus, still-image quality, battery life, or value against competing cameras. For those decisions, seek independent tests and current local pricing rather than treating manufacturer specifications as test results.
