For Opera, a community-forum answer gives a startup-settings route, but the current label may vary by version.
What session restoration does—and what it does not
These settings tell a browser what to open when it launches after you quit. They are not a guarantee that every page will retain unsaved form entries, private-browsing content, or sign-in state. Chrome’s help documentation says it saves cookies and site data for its “Continue where you left off” behavior; clearing site data when windows close may affect whether sites reopen signed in. Restart Chrome and restore its tabs
- In Chrome, select the three-dot menu, then Settings.
- In the left navigation, select On startup.
- Select Continue where you left off.
- Quit Chrome completely, then launch it again.
Google says this option reopens the same pages that were open when you quit. If you also use Chrome’s setting to delete saved site data when all windows close, the restoration or sign-in behavior may differ.
Restart Microsoft Edge and restore the previous session
Edge supports reopening the previous browsing session at startup. Microsoft documents this behavior as the RestoreOnStartupIsLastSession policy. For a consumer setting, look in Edge’s Settings for an option to open tabs from the previous session; a likely route is Settings → Start, home, and new tab page, but menu wording can vary by release. Microsoft’s policy documentation covers Windows and macOS beginning with Edge version 77; it lists Android and iOS as unsupported for this policy. The policy is for managed browsers, not a required step for ordinary users.

Microsoft says Edge version 125 introduced a managed-policy option to restore the previous session and also open a specified set of URLs. That is an administrator configuration, rather than the standard consumer startup setting.
Restart Opera and check its startup setting
An Opera community-forum discussion recommends opening opera:settings/onStartup and selecting Retain tabs from previous session. Because the guidance is community-sourced and may not match current releases, open Opera Settings, search for “startup,” and confirm the option and wording in your installed version. If your tabs do not return
- Check that you launched the same browser profile that had the tabs open, and that its previous-session option remains enabled.
- If the browser has already opened a new session, check History or the recently closed tabs list if available. Restoration is not guaranteed after a session has been replaced, cleared, or lost.
- If Edge is crashing or will not open, Microsoft recommends updating it, closing other tabs and apps, restarting the computer, or using the Windows repair option. Repair is troubleshooting, not a method for recovering a lost session; Microsoft says it should not affect browser data and settings. Follow Microsoft’s Edge troubleshooting steps.
- Do not reset Chrome as a tab-recovery step. Google documents that resetting changes startup and homepage settings and pinned tabs, among other preferences; it is different from enabling session restoration. See Google’s Chrome reset instructions.
