1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTo care for white sneaker soles, brush off loose grit, clean stuck-on dirt with sneaker cleaner or mild soapy water, and wipe it away before it reaches the upper. For isolated scuffs, try an eraser after cleaning. If the sole stays yellow, the color change may be in the material itself rather than removable dirt, so ordinary washing may not restore it.
Clean white soles without spreading dirt
- Brush away loose debris. Use a dry brush to remove grit, including dirt caught in the outsole grooves. Adidas demonstrates a hard-bristle brush for its example outsole; choose a brush appropriate for your shoe and its materials. Adidas’s shoe-cleaning guide describes brushing the outsole before wiping it clean.
- Wash the dirty areas. Work a suitable sneaker-cleaning solution or mild soapy water over the sole with a brush. Paul Green also suggests diluted dish soap as an alternative to shoe cleanser. Follow the shoe and cleaner makers’ instructions rather than assuming every finish can tolerate the same treatment. Adidas and Paul Green describe these approaches.
- Wipe as you go. Use a microfiber cloth or towel to lift loosened dirt and foam. Avoid soaking the shoe or letting dirty water run onto the upper.
- Let the shoe dry. Do not put it away while the sole is wet; follow the shoe maker’s care directions for drying.
Tell dirt and scuffs apart from yellowing
Loose dirt and surface grime
If brushing or washing removes the discoloration, it was likely on the surface. Regular dry brushing helps keep coarse dirt from building up; Paul Green notes that embedded dirt can contribute to faster discoloration.
Scuffs that remain after cleaning
Clean the area first, then try an ordinary eraser or purpose-made dirt eraser on the sole. Paul Green recommends this for persistent marks. Use light pressure and stop if the surface changes; an eraser may not remove a mark that has become part of the material.
Yellowing that persists
Persistent yellowing may reflect aging or a change in the sole material, not simply dirt. Paul Green attributes gradual yellowing partly to sunlight and oxygen reacting with plastic in a sole, but that is its care explanation—not a proven account for every rubber or foam formulation. Routine cleaning cannot be assumed to reverse a material change.

Use a restorer only when the sole and instructions fit
Tarrago describes its Sneakers Sole Restorer as an oxygenated solution for white and translucent rubber midsoles. Its product PDF directs users to wear gloves, paint the product onto the sole, cover the sneaker with transparent plastic wrap, expose it to direct sunlight for 2–6 hours, then remove it with a wet sponge; it says to repeat if needed. However, the same PDF also says “KEEP AWAY FROM SUNLIGHT.” Because those directions conflict, do not improvise from the PDF alone: read the current product packaging and instructions, and ask Tarrago for clarification if the sunlight direction remains ambiguous. Do not use it on other sole materials unless the maker says it is suitable. Tarrago’s product instructions document the application and warning.
Be cautious with household remedies
Care advice differs. Clarks suggests a baking soda and white vinegar paste for rubber soles, while Paul Green cautions against baking powder, bleach, and toothpaste, saying they may discolor shoes, weaken material, or make it brittle. These recommendations do not establish that a recipe is safe or effective for every sole.

- Never mix bleach with vinegar, ammonia, or another cleaner; Clorox warns that dangerous fumes can form. Its guidance mentions 3% hydrogen peroxide for spot-treating light-colored fabric shoes, not as a universal rubber-sole treatment. Clorox’s shoe-cleaning guidance explains the bleach warning.
Choose the approach by the mark
| What you see | First approach | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| Loose dirt or grime | Dry brush, then use suitable sneaker cleaner or mild soapy water and wipe with a cloth. | Keep dirty water off the upper; follow the shoe and cleaner instructions. |
| Isolated surface scuff | Clean first, then try an eraser or sole dirt eraser. | Use gently; a mark within the material may remain. |
| Yellowing that remains after cleaning | Consider whether the material has aged; for white or translucent rubber, consult a compatible restorer’s current instructions. | Results are not guaranteed. Tarrago’s PDF contains conflicting sunlight language, so clarify the current directions before use. |
