Choose the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max if you specifically want its 6.9-inch display and larger listed battery. Both are reported to share the same triple-camera setup and rear-display concept. The comparison is based on China launch coverage and Xiaomi China Store listings; buyers elsewhere should verify local availability, price, network compatibility, warranty and software support.
What is the difference between the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Pro Max?
The main practical distinction is size: launch coverage reports a 6.4-inch main display for the Pro and a 6.9-inch display for the Pro Max. The Max also has the larger listed battery capacity. The reported camera configuration is the same on both, and each has a small rear display.
| Decision point | Xiaomi 18 Pro | Xiaomi 18 Pro Max |
|---|---|---|
| Main display | 6.4 inches, as reported by Android Central in 2026 | 6.9 inches, as reported by Android Central in 2026 |
| Rear display | 2.7 inches, according to Xiaomi Community’s September 24, 2026 announcement | 2.9 inches, according to Xiaomi Community’s September 24, 2026 announcement |
| Battery capacity listed in launch coverage | 7,000mAh, reported by Android Central in 2026 | 8,500mAh, reported by Android Central in 2026 |
| Reported chipset | Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 | Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 |
| Reported rear cameras | 200MP main, 200MP periscope telephoto and 50MP ultrawide | 200MP main, 200MP periscope telephoto and 50MP ultrawide |
| Starting price listed by Xiaomi China Store | 5,999 yuan | 6,999 yuan |
The listed starting prices are for Xiaomi’s China store, not confirmed local or international retail prices. The 1,000-yuan gap is a China-store comparison, not a prediction of what the difference will be in another market.
Which model should you buy?
Choose the Xiaomi 18 Pro if you want a smaller phone
- You prefer the reported 6.4-inch main display over a larger handset.
- You do not need the Pro Max’s larger listed battery capacity.
- You want the lower China-store starting price: 5,999 yuan, as listed by Xiaomi China Store.
Choose the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max if you want the larger screen
- You specifically want the reported 6.9-inch display for a larger viewing area.
- The larger listed battery capacity—8,500mAh versus 7,000mAh for the Pro—is important to you.
- You are willing to pay the higher China-store starting price of 6,999 yuan.
Battery capacity is not a battery-life result. The available launch coverage does not establish how long either phone lasts in a standardized test, so the capacity figures alone cannot show which model will last longer in everyday use.

Do the Pro and Pro Max have different cameras?
Launch coverage reports the same rear-camera hardware on both: a 200MP main camera, a 200MP periscope telephoto camera and a 50MP ultrawide camera. Those specifications do not establish that the phones produce identical images—or prove that either has better image quality. The available material does not provide a controlled camera comparison.
What does the rear display do?
Xiaomi Community’s September 24, 2026 announcement describes a rear display on each model: 2.7 inches on the Pro and 2.9 inches on the Pro Max. Xiaomi presents it for uses including framing selfies with the rear cameras and showing widgets or controls. These are announcement-described uses, not independent testing of how well the feature works in practice.

How should you weigh Smart Privacy Display?
Launch coverage describes Smart Privacy Display as a feature intended to limit side viewing and handle sensitive notifications or content. Treat its effectiveness as unverified: TechRadar’s hands-on writer said they could not unlock the demonstration phone to test the feature. It should not be the deciding reason to buy either model without a chance to assess it yourself.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What should buyers outside China check?
The cited prices come from Xiaomi’s China store, and the available launch and store information does not establish country-by-country release dates, local stock, international pricing, regional specifications, warranty terms, supported network bands or software-support details. Before ordering, confirm the exact model and its compatibility with your carrier through local Xiaomi or carrier information. Do not treat a currency conversion of the China price as a local retail quote.

Android Central’s account describes a brief hands-on at Snapdragon Summit, not a standardized review. The material available here does not establish comparative performance benchmarks, camera tests or battery-endurance results. The chipset names are different, but that alone does not settle which phone performs better in real use.
