ONYX introduced the BOOX Tab X in January 2023 as a large-format, monochrome ePaper tablet built around a 13.3-inch, 2,200 × 1,650 E Ink Mobius display using Carta 1250 technology. New Atlas reported that its screen can show A4 pages without resizing, while an included stylus supports writing and annotation. The specifications and launch price below describe the product at launch, not a verified current offer.
What the 13.3-inch display is designed for
The Tab X’s 13.3-inch screen has a reported resolution of 2,200 × 1,650 pixels. New Atlas said the display can present A4 pages without resizing, a useful fit for readers who work with full-page documents, sheet music, or large-format PDFs. The screen uses E Ink Mobius with Carta 1250 technology; it is a monochrome ePaper display, not a color tablet panel. New Atlas’s January 19, 2023 launch coverage is the source for the Tab X specifications and feature descriptions.
For context, E Ink Holdings, Wacom, and Linfiny announced Carta 1250-based eNote solutions in 10.3-inch and 13.3-inch sizes in February 2021. E Ink associated that platform with higher contrast, faster page turns, and faster pen writing. Those are claims about the announced display generation, not independent measurements of the Tab X. E Ink’s announcement describes the technology platform.
Reading, writing, and refresh features
The launch coverage positioned the Tab X for ebook reading, document annotation, note-taking, and drawing. It has capacitive touch for navigation and a separate inductive input layer for the supplied Pen2 Pro stylus. New Atlas reported that the pen includes an eraser function and that the tablet also supports a Bluetooth keyboard.

What the launch coverage does—and does not—establish
The launch report supplies product specifications and manufacturer feature descriptions, but it does not establish independently measured battery life, refresh performance, or user outcomes. E Ink’s Carta 1250 announcement provides background on the display generation rather than a Tab X test. Readers comparing large ePaper tablets should verify current availability and support, then compare screen size and resolution, A4 page fit, lighting, pen and keyboard input, operating system and app access, storage, weight, and current price. The available sources do not establish a current, like-for-like comparison with competing devices.
Why Carta 1250 was presented as an eNote platform
In its February 2021 announcement of Carta 1250 eNote solutions, E Ink CEO Johnson Lee said: “We believe strongly in the capabilities of eNote devices, and the benefits they bring to the Educational and Office environments, especially as learning and working remotely becomes a new normal in our society.” The statement expresses the company’s view of the eNote category; it is not a finding about Tab X performance or its users.
