NFL streaming access depends on which broadcast window a game is in and whether it is available in your local market. Local Sunday-afternoon games usually air on CBS or FOX; national and streaming-exclusive games use other services; and Sunday Ticket is the option for out-of-market Sunday-afternoon games. No single subscription automatically carries every game. For a specific matchup, check the NFL’s Ways to Watch guide with your ZIP code and the services you have.
How broadcast rights determine where you can watch
Broadcast rights assign games to particular networks or streaming services, often for a particular time slot. The NFL’s current live-game support guide lists the main U.S. options below. Weekly assignments can vary, so use the game’s current listing rather than relying only on a general schedule.
| Game window or type | Typical broadcaster or service | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Local-market Sunday afternoon | CBS or FOX | The station and matchup available in your local market. |
| Sunday Night Football | NBC | The current listing and access through your TV service or an eligible streaming option. |
| Monday Night Football | ESPN and ABC | The listing for the game and whether your service carries the relevant channel. |
| Thursday Night Football and the Black Friday game | Amazon Prime Video | The current season’s listing for the specific game. |
| Week 1 game in São Paulo | YouTube | Season-specific availability and the game’s official listing. |
| Exclusive Christmas Day games | Netflix | The current season’s Christmas Day schedule. |
| Select NFL Network games | NFL Network | Whether the matchup is assigned to NFL Network and whether your service includes it. |
| Out-of-market Sunday afternoon | NFL Sunday Ticket through YouTube or YouTube TV | Whether the game is outside your local market and the current service terms. |
The NFL’s media-rights overview describes the Sunday-afternoon packages as CBS for AFC games and FOX for NFC games, alongside NBC’s Sunday Night Football and ESPN’s Monday Night Football. Those package descriptions do not tell you which game your local station will show on a given week; local listings and schedule changes matter.
What “local” means—and why it matters
For NFL viewing, “local” means available on television in the viewer’s market, not simply a game involving the team they support. The NFL support pages describe local games in terms of the viewer’s local market. A fan outside a team’s home market may therefore need an out-of-market option to watch that team’s Sunday-afternoon game live.

National distribution can overlap with local station availability. The NFL says Monday Night Football and Thursday Night Football are contractually required to be carried on over-the-air broadcast stations in the cities of the participating teams. That does not identify the local station for every matchup, so check the weekly listing for your ZIP code.
Which service fits the game you want?
Local Sunday-afternoon game
If the game appears as a local CBS or FOX broadcast, watch through the listed station or an authorized service that carries it. An antenna may receive a local over-the-air station, but reception depends on your location, distance from the transmitter, terrain, building materials, and other signal conditions. A listing alone cannot guarantee reception with a particular antenna.

National or streaming-exclusive game
Use the service named for the specific game. A national time slot does not mean every streaming subscription includes the game, and an exclusive streaming assignment may require a different service from the one you use for local broadcasts. Confirm the current listing before subscribing or switching devices.
Out-of-market Sunday-afternoon game
The NFL identifies Sunday Ticket, available through YouTube and YouTube TV, as the route for Sunday-afternoon games outside your local market. NFL Sunday Ticket is separate from NFL+ and is not included with NFL+ or NFL+ Premium.

NFL+ live viewing
NFL+ provides live local and nationally televised games on phones and tablets; NFL support also describes mobile-web access. Its regular-season live offering does not include out-of-market Sunday-afternoon games. NFL+ Premium adds features such as NFL RedZone and replays, but it does not add Sunday Ticket.
Watching with a TV-provider login
If you have a participating TV provider, its credentials may unlock eligible live games on supported NFL devices, including NFL Network and local CBS, FOX, and NBC stations. NFL support also describes third-party authentication for Paramount+ and Peacock subscribers. Access depends on the provider subscription, the game, and the supported device; a login does not grant rights to every NFL broadcast.

How to check a specific game before kickoff
- Open the NFL Ways to Watch guide, find the game and date, enter your ZIP code, and select only the services you actually have.
- For a local Sunday-afternoon game, follow the guide’s CBS or FOX station listing, or use an authorized service that carries that station.
- For a national or exclusive game, use the service shown for that matchup rather than assuming NFL+ or Sunday Ticket includes it.
- For an out-of-market Sunday-afternoon game, check NFL Sunday Ticket through YouTube or YouTube TV.
- Before game time, confirm the device and sign-in requirements. NFL+ live viewing is mobile-focused, while provider authentication works only with participating providers and supported devices.
The guide says its schedule is customized to the TV-provider subscription selected; choosing a provider assumes access to channels including FOX, CBS, NBC, ABC, ESPN, and NFL Network. Local availability, weekly assignments, and flex scheduling can affect what appears, so recheck close to game day.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What this means for viewers outside the United States
This access guide is for U.S. viewers. NFL support states that NFL+ is U.S.-only and directs viewers outside the United States to DAZN’s NFL Game Pass International. Availability and rights vary by country; the U.S. channel and service map above does not establish what is available in another market.

Why “all games on free TV” does not mean every game is free everywhere
The NFL states that it remains the only sports league delivering all regular-season and playoff games on free, over-the-air television. The same media-rights page says Thursday Night Football and Monday Night Football must be carried by over-the-air stations in the participating teams’ cities. These statements do not mean every game is available free over the air in every U.S. market, or that a viewer can stream every game free. Rights, local station coverage, and the game’s distribution window determine what a particular viewer can receive.
