The best AI tool for a customer support team depends on its existing helpdesk or CRM and whether it needs AI to assist human agents, automate customer conversations, or do both. The current vendor information supports three options to compare: Zendesk AI and Copilot, Salesforce Agentforce for Service, and Intercom Fin. Their published prices use different billing units, so a headline price alone does not show which will cost less for your team.
Compare the AI tools at a glance
| Tool | Best fit | AI work described by the vendor | Channels and stack fit | Published pricing information |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zendesk AI and Copilot | Teams using Zendesk that want agent assistance, customer-facing automation, or both | Agent writing and search help, translation, summaries, suggested macros, intelligent triage, and AI agents | AI agents are documented for messaging, email, web forms, and voice | Basic AI tools and AI agent functionality are available in Suite; Copilot is a paid add-on. No price is established here for those entitlements. |
| Salesforce Agentforce for Service | Teams using Salesforce Service Cloud that want AI support across service workflows | Generative replies, summaries, knowledge creation, search answers, case classification and routing, and reply recommendations | Salesforce describes separate contact-center, self-service, digital-channel, and telephony integrations | $125 USD per user per month, billed annually, on Salesforce’s pricing page; the page directs buyers to a representative for detailed pricing. |
| Intercom Fin AI Agent | Teams that want a customer-facing AI agent and may keep an existing helpdesk | Customer-facing AI support agent; optional Copilot is listed as an add-on | Intercom lists email, live chat, and phone support; Fin can be used with an existing helpdesk without seats required for Fin | From $0.99 per outcome; helpdesk seats, usage-based channels, and add-ons can increase total cost. |

1. Zendesk AI and Copilot: for Zendesk teams needing agent help and automation
Zendesk’s AI offering spans two distinct workflows. Agent-facing tools help staff search, write, translate, and manage tickets; customer-facing AI agents can handle interactions across documented support channels. That makes Zendesk a natural option to assess when the support team already works in Zendesk and wants to add AI without treating agent assistance and customer automation as the same job.
What it does
Zendesk’s September 1, 2026 help documentation describes generative search, translations, suggested macros, writing support, article and ticket summaries, and intelligent triage. Its AI agents are described for messaging, email, web forms, and voice. These capabilities address both the agent’s work inside a support workflow and automated customer interactions.

Plans and pricing
Zendesk says basic AI tools and AI agent functionality are available in Suite, while Copilot is a paid add-on for more robust agent assistance. The available source does not establish a current Copilot price or the exact feature entitlements for every Suite plan, so there is no supported all-in figure to compare here. Confirm the plan-level feature list and add-on cost with Zendesk.
Limits and fit
Zendesk’s documentation establishes the feature categories and channels, not comparative answer quality, resolution performance, or suitability for a particular team. If your immediate need is only customer-facing automation, compare how Zendesk’s Suite entitlements and any usage charges fit your volume; if agents need more advanced assistance, include Copilot’s add-on cost in the estimate.
2. Salesforce Agentforce for Service: for service operations built around Salesforce
Agentforce for Service is the most CRM-centered option in this group. Its documented capabilities cover common service operations—including drafting, summarizing, knowledge work, and case routing—so it is worth considering when Salesforce is already the system around which service workflows are organized.

What it does
Salesforce lists generative replies, conversation summaries, knowledge creation, search answers for agents and customers, case classification, case routing, and reply recommendations. It also describes separate integrations for contact-center, self-service, digital-channel, and telephony functions. Those integration categories should not be mistaken for a statement that every channel or contact-center capability is included in the Agentforce price.
Plans and pricing
Salesforce’s pricing page lists Agentforce for Service at $125 USD per user per month, billed annually. Salesforce describes the page as informational and directs prospective buyers to a representative for detailed pricing. Treat this as a published list price, not a complete quote for a deployed service stack.
Limits and fit
The price is seat-based, unlike Intercom Fin’s per-outcome starting price. The available Salesforce source does not establish the full cost of any separate channel, contact-center, or telephony integrations, nor does it demonstrate how Agentforce performs against the other tools. This option is most straightforward to evaluate when Salesforce is already central to case management and the team can clarify which additional service components its workflow requires.

3. Intercom Fin AI Agent: for customer-facing automation with outcome-based pricing
Fin is positioned as a customer-facing AI agent, with an option to use it alongside an existing helpdesk. Its per-outcome starting price can be useful for estimating automated support costs, but it is not the same as a complete platform subscription.
What it does
Intercom lists email, live chat, and phone support for Fin, and lists Copilot as an optional add-on. Fin can be used with an existing helpdesk without seats required for Fin itself. Intercom’s pricing guide says total cost should account for seats, Fin outcomes, channels, and add-ons.

Plans and pricing
Intercom’s official pricing page lists Fin from $0.99 per outcome. Helpdesk seats, usage-based channels, and add-ons can add to the bill, so this amount is not an all-in monthly price. To estimate monthly spend, combine the applicable seat charges with expected billable outcomes and channel and add-on charges; ask Intercom how outcomes are counted and how escalated or unresolved conversations are treated.

Intercom’s July 8, 2026 pricing guide reports a 76% average resolution rate across 8,000+ customers. This is a vendor-reported figure, not an independent benchmark or a forecast for another team. Intercom’s broader AI-agent pricing comparison also comes from a vendor participating in this market, so its cross-vendor examples should not be treated as independent quotes. The available information does not establish a like-for-like performance comparison with Zendesk or Salesforce.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to choose an AI tool for your support team
- Choose the workflow first. If the primary goal is to help agents draft, search, summarize, translate, or triage, evaluate agent-assistance features and their plan entitlements. If the goal is to automate repetitive customer issues, evaluate the customer-facing agent, supported channels, and how handoffs to human agents work. Some tools span both jobs, but the feature and pricing model may differ by job.
- Start with the system your team already uses. Zendesk’s documented tools fit a Zendesk environment; Agentforce for Service is a natural candidate for Salesforce-centered service operations; Fin can be used with an existing helpdesk. Compare the effort and cost of adding AI to the current stack against adopting a different support platform rather than assuming a stand-alone agent replaces the helpdesk.
- Map channels to actual customer demand. Check whether the support work occurs in messaging, email, web forms, voice, live chat, or phone. Confirm which channels the vendor includes in the relevant plan and which require separate integrations or usage charges. Channel availability in a product description does not establish that all channel costs are included.
- Normalize the billing unit. The published examples here include an annual-billed per-user price, a per-outcome starting price, and Zendesk feature entitlements with a paid Copilot add-on. Other models in the market include per-conversation, per-action, per-session, and custom enterprise pricing. Intercom’s July 8, 2026 market comparison describes these patterns, but its rate examples are vendor-authored and not an independent survey. Ask each vendor exactly what event is billable and calculate expected monthly spend using your own volume, escalation rate, seats, channels, and add-ons.
- Run a bounded pilot on representative support cases. Include routine issues as well as cases that need escalation, and review the AI’s answers for accuracy and policy compliance. Track resolution quality, escalation behavior, and total cost—not just how many conversations the tool handles. This gives your team evidence about its own workload rather than relying on a vendor-wide efficacy figure.
