My dream video game concert would feel like stepping through several game worlds, with live musicians carrying the story and the visuals following the music—not competing with it. It would move between orchestral, electronic and rock sounds, then let the audience make one meaningful choice about the show.

How the concert would unfold

I’d build the evening like a journey rather than a playlist. A quiet opening could grow into a full-orchestra theme, then give way to a pulsing electronic passage or a guitar-led battle cue. The arrangements would leave room for the melodies people recognize, while making each transition feel like a new world opening up.

Behind the musicians, game footage would be edited to follow the musical arc: a landscape revealed during a slow build, a character’s turning point at the emotional peak, or a boss encounter timed to a powerful finale. Lighting and sound would support those moments without drowning out the performers.

What real videogame concerts show is possible

A single game as a cinematic story

ELDEN RING Symphonic Adventure describes orchestral music paired with 4K game montages synchronized to the story, as well as lighting and surround effects. That model suits a show built around one game’s dramatic arc.

Video Games Live: Level 2 [Blu-Ray + DVD Combo]
  • VIDEO GAMES LIVE-LEVEL 2 BLU-RAY/DVD (BLU-RAY DISC)

A broad program with spectacle

Video Games Live describes a multi-game event combining orchestras and choirs with video footage, synchronized lighting, effects, soloists and interactive segments. Its official page says the production has performed “over 500 shows in 42 countries on 5 continents”; it presents that as a historical summary, without stating a year.

A game-world journey with varied instruments

The Witcher in Concert describes gameplay and visuals alongside orchestral music and traditional instruments, with arrangements supervised by composer Marcin Przybyłowicz. Its page notes that some imagery is best suited to audiences aged 16 and over; guidance may vary by location.

A publisher-catalog retrospective

Paradox in Concert draws from 25 years of music across Crusader Kings, Europa Universalis, Hearts of Iron, Victoria and Stellaris. Its hybrid orchestra combines classical and modern electronic soundscapes, a useful model for shifting musical textures across a program.

Give the audience one real choice

I’d include a moment of participation, but keep it focused: perhaps a vote for which of two encore themes the band plays, or which path the show takes into its final section. The choice should change what happens, not interrupt every piece.

In Concert[Blu-ray]
  • Filmed at the BBC Radio Theatre, Van Morrison `In Concert' includes a selection of tracks, old and new, from his iconic back catalog through to his 2016 album, Keep Me Singing

That approach has a real precedent, though it is not a standard feature of videogame concerts. VG Concerts describes Extra Lives as a narrated choose-your-own-adventure show in which phone votes steer the story while a live band performs. The same listings include other kinds of events, including an official orchestral Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 concert.

Make it welcoming beyond the biggest fans

A dream show should reward longtime players with recognizable themes, but the music and pacing should still make sense to someone who has never held the controller. Short visual transitions can establish the mood without requiring a plot recap, and a mix of games can offer variety without assuming every audience member knows every title.

That balance also means being thoughtful about projected material and the room itself. A single-game story show can be more immersive but less familiar to newcomers; a catalog program can broaden the appeal but may offer less narrative continuity. Age guidance for visuals should be clear where it applies, and the concert should let the music remain the central experience.

The version I’d want to attend

For me, it would be a live ensemble able to shift from strings and choir to synths and guitars, with visuals edited to the music’s emotional turns. It would travel across several game worlds, pause for one audience-led decision, and finish with an encore that feels earned. The ideal would make the music work on its own while giving fans a few unmistakable moments of recognition.
