To power USB devices from a Milwaukee M18 battery, attach the battery to an M18-compatible power-supply accessory. For USB-focused use, Milwaukee’s M18 TOP-OFF Charger & Power Supply (2847-20) is the most direct option: it fits all M18 batteries and has a 100 W USB-C Power Delivery port plus a 15 W port. The battery is separate; the included wall adapter is for recharging the battery through the TOP-OFF.
How to connect an M18 battery to a USB device
- Attach a compatible M18 battery to the power-supply accessory.
- Connect your phone, tablet, headlamp, computer, or other USB device using an appropriate cable and the port suited to its charging needs.
- Follow the device maker’s connection and charging instructions, and keep the load within the selected port’s rating.
Milwaukee’s M18BC operator manual gives this connection guidance for its TOP-OFF bidirectional charger: consult the M18BC operator manual. Actual charging performance depends on the device, cable, negotiated USB-C power profile, and battery state. A port’s maximum wattage is a rating, not a promise that every connected device will charge at that speed.

For charging USB devices alone, the 2847-20 has the higher-rated USB-C port of the two established TOP-OFF choices here. Choose the 2846-20 if you also need its 120 V AC outlet and its load is compatible. Do not treat its 175 W AC rating as USB output: its USB-C port is rated up to 45 W.
What comes with the 2847-20?
Milwaukee lists a 65 W USB-C wall adapter and a 100 W USB-C cable with the 2847-20. The wall adapter lets the TOP-OFF recharge an attached M18 battery; it is not needed to draw portable power from a battery already attached. You must supply the M18 battery for battery-powered use. Milwaukee’s estimate that an XC 5.0 battery can charge a phone up to five times is not a guarantee for every phone or battery condition.

Safety and compatibility limits
- Use an accessory designed for the M18 battery system. The manufacturer guidance covers its documented power supplies, not an improvised direct connection between battery terminals and USB wiring.
- Keep connected devices within each port’s rating. Milwaukee warns that exceeding the 2846-20’s load capacity can damage equipment or create overheating, fire, shock, or injury risks.
- The 2846-20’s 120 V AC receptacle has non-sinusoidal output and is not recommended for certain sensitive electronics. Check the device maker’s manual before using that outlet.
- Milwaukee says the 2846-20 is not compatible with appliances, power tools, air conditioners, sump pumps, compressors, or other larger electrical devices. Its manual specifies indoor use, says not to expose it to rain, and warns against using a damaged supply or battery.
- The 2846-20 manual excludes emergency medical equipment and life-support devices. Do not rely on these accessories as emergency medical or life-support power sources.
