Before trying to adjust the Steam Frame, check two published fit specifications: Valve lists an IPD target range of 60–70 mm and a maximum glasses width of 140 mm. These are useful starting checks, not guarantees of a clear or comfortable fit. Valve describes the headset as balanced front to rear and modular, but its public product page does not give a detailed consumer adjustment sequence. For that procedure, follow the prompts in the headset or consult Valve’s current support guidance.
Check the two published fit dimensions first
Valve’s Steam Frame product page lists the following specifications:

What Valve says about the headstrap and balance
Valve describes the Steam Frame as lightweight and compact, with its weight balanced front to rear “for a comfortable experience.” The headset also has a modular headstrap: Valve says its core module can be separated for other headstrap solutions. These descriptions identify the design features, but the product page does not explain how to adjust strap tension or pressure.

Follow current consumer instructions for the adjustment sequence
The publicly available Steamworks Steam Frame setup documentation covers powering on a development unit and its initial update steps. It is not a consumer ergonomic fitting guide, so it should not be used to infer an adjustment procedure.
Because Valve’s accessible product information does not specify which strap or control to adjust first, how to position a facial interface or spacer, or what pressure is appropriate, do not rely on an assumed sequence. Use the in-headset prompts or Valve’s current support guidance for the exact steps.

If you wear prescription glasses
Valve lists Zenni prescription inserts among Steam Frame accessories and says products carrying its “Steam Frame Compatible” mark have been tested to work with the headset. The listing does not establish prescription ranges, price, delivery availability, or fit for every wearer. You can compare the insert option with wearing your glasses, using the 140 mm glasses-width figure only as a preliminary clearance check.
