If the Game Catalog is your main reason for subscribing, PlayStation Plus Extra is the tier to consider: both Extra and Premium include it. Premium is worth considering when you also want its Classics Catalog, limited-time trials for select games, or cloud streaming for eligible titles. The best choice depends on which benefits you will use, the games currently offered in your region, and your local price.

Choose Extra if the Game Catalog is what you want
Extra includes access to the Game Catalog, as does Premium. You do not need Premium simply to get the Game Catalog. PlayStation describes Extra as including the Essential benefits plus downloadable access to Game Catalog games; Premium includes benefits from Essential and Extra as well as its additional features.
For a decision based on the catalog alone, look up the games you actually intend to play rather than relying on a headline catalog count. PlayStation’s pages describe the catalog as containing hundreds of games, but do not provide a dated, precise count. Catalog lineups can change, and some games display an end date.
#1 Best Overall
- Redeem for anything on PlayStationStore: games, add-ons, PlayStationPlus and more.
- Everything you want to play. Choose from the largest library of PlayStation content.
- Use gift card funds to contribute towards PlayStationPlus memberships.
Pay more for Premium only if its extras fit
Classics Catalog
Premium adds the Classics Catalog. Check that the particular classic games you want are available in your region; the tier is more compelling if you expect to play them. PlayStation’s FAQ says many PS3 Classics Catalog games are streaming-only.
Limited-time game trials
Premium includes trials for select games, not a trial for every game. This benefit is most useful if a title you are considering buying has a trial and you want to try it before deciding whether to purchase.
Rank #2
- Redeem for anything on PlayStationStore: games, add-ons, PlayStationPlus and more.
- Everything you want to play. Choose from the largest library of PlayStation content.
- Use gift card funds to contribute towards PlayStationPlus memberships.
Cloud streaming
Premium lets members stream eligible games on supported devices and in supported regions. PlayStation’s cloud-streaming page describes selected titles streaming to PS5 and PlayStation Portal; it does not say that every catalog game can be streamed. For a PS5 or Portal streaming session, PlayStation states a minimum connection of 5 Mbps upload and 5 Mbps download. That is the stated minimum to establish a session, not a guarantee of smooth performance. See [PlayStation’s cloud-streaming details] for eligibility and requirements.
Sony Pictures Catalog
PlayStation lists the Sony Pictures Catalog as a Premium benefit in its US comparison. Check the current local plan page and available content to see whether this benefit matters to you.

Check a game’s availability before subscribing
- Open PlayStation’s games and catalog page or the PlayStation Store for your region.
- Search for each game you want and confirm it is currently included with the tier you are considering.
- Look for any listed end date. Adding a catalog game to your library is not the same as buying it: access to Game Catalog and Classics Catalog titles depends on an active membership in the corresponding plan, and games can leave the service.
- Check your region’s current subscription page for available tiers and recurring prices before you pay. Catalog availability and plan terms may vary by region.
How to decide
- Choose Extra if your main goal is downloading games from the Game Catalog and its current lineup has the titles you want.
- Consider Premium if you will use the Classics Catalog, find a relevant game trial, or stream eligible games on a supported device.
- Compare the local recurring price with the specific Premium benefits you expect to use. If none of its extras matter to you, the shared Game Catalog does not by itself justify choosing Premium.
