For a restored Mexico region to explore in Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC, the relevant mod is Nuevo Paraiso – The Forgotten Frontier. It is a community-created project, not an official Rockstar expansion. Its Nexus listing requires Lenny’s Mod Loader and Script Hook RDR2; back up your game files, check the live listing and bundled instructions, and install for single-player only.
Which Mexico map mod should you install?
Nuevo Paraiso – The Forgotten Frontier is the option described as restoring locations from the original Red Dead Redemption as a region in RDR2’s 1907 setting. Nexus Mods identifies Mexico Team as the creator and Rixus724 as the uploader.

Do not confuse it with Mexico on Minimap. That is a separate, narrower mod whose stated purpose is to add Nuevo Paraíso to the in-game minimap; it does not claim the same restored-world exploration scope.
| Mod | Stated purpose | Requirements listed | Compatibility clarity |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nuevo Paraiso – The Forgotten Frontier | Restored region and locations for exploration, as described by its listing. | Lenny’s Mod Loader and Script Hook RDR2. ScriptHookRDR2 V2 is listed as an alternative version of AB Script Hook; a startup crash fix is recommended for users with many mods. | The captured listing does not confirm a supported RDR2 build or launcher version. Nexus displays version 1.2 while its changelog includes a Version 2.0 heading. |
| Mexico on Minimap | Adds Nuevo Paraíso to the in-game minimap. | ScriptHookRDR2 and Lenny’s Mod Loader. | Check its current listing and instructions for current compatibility details. |
Both pages can change. Check the current mod listing, author notes, and any release discussion before downloading rather than assuming an older guide or a displayed version number settles compatibility.

What to check before installing
- Confirm you are modding the PC version of RDR2 and locate the game directory used by your launcher.
- Read the current Nexus page for the selected mod, including its requirements, files, installation directions, and recent comments or author notes.
- Back up the game folder before changing files. A copy of the files you may need to restore is more useful than relying on memory about what was replaced.
- Use the mod in single-player. The general RDR2 modding guide says Script Hook does not work in multiplayer and will force-close the game if multiplayer is launched.
The available listing does not establish that the featured Mexico mod supports a particular RDR2 game build or launcher version. If the page does not explicitly confirm yours, treat compatibility as unverified.
How to install Nuevo Paraiso – The Forgotten Frontier
- Open the current Nexus Mods listing. Search the exact title, verify that the listing is the Mexico region mod rather than Mexico on Minimap, and review its latest author instructions and requirements.
- Back up the game directory. Make a restorable copy before installing the mod or its dependencies.
- Install Lenny’s Mod Loader. The featured listing marks it as required. Follow the loader’s own current setup instructions for your RDR2 directory.
- Install Script Hook RDR2. The mod listing marks it as required for the mod’s ASI files. Use the version and installation directions specified by the current listing; it also names ScriptHookRDR2 V2 as an alternative version of AB Script Hook.
- Install the Mexico mod using its bundled instructions. Do not assume that another mod’s folder layout or a generic tutorial applies. Follow the instructions packaged with the current download and the mod page’s current directions.
- Consider the startup crash fix only if relevant. The listing recommends Sir Joseph’s LML Startup Crash Fix for players with many mods installed; it is not described as a universal requirement.
- Launch single-player and check the result. If RDR2 does not start or the region does not appear, avoid adding more files at random. Compare your setup with the current instructions, check dependencies and mod conflicts, and restore the backup if necessary.
For the separate Mexico on Minimap mod, its listing says to place its lml folder in the game directory and requires ScriptHookRDR2 and Lenny’s Mod Loader. Use that instruction only for that minimap mod, not as a substitute for the full-region mod’s own installation steps.

What can you explore in the Mexico mod?
GamesRadar+ reported the creator Rixus’s description of Mexico recreated for RDR2’s 1907 period. The creator-described scope includes settlements, hidden locations, activities, encounters, mysteries, wildlife, local people, classic characters, and dangers. That is a preview of what the creator says the project contains, not independent confirmation that every feature is complete or works in every installation.

Version and compatibility caveats
The Nexus listing captured for this guide shows version 1.2 and a last-updated date of 17 September 2026, but its changelog also contains a section labeled Version 2.0. Because those labels conflict, do not infer which release is newest or choose a download based on the version display alone; check the current files and author notes on the live page.
The listing names required tools but does not confirm a supported RDR2 build or launcher version. Compatibility with a particular current game update is therefore not established by that page. If the game or a dependency has recently updated, wait for the mod author or current release notes to confirm support before treating it as compatible.

Common installation problems
The game closes on launch
Check that the required loader and Script Hook are installed as directed, and confirm that you followed the mod’s current instructions. If you have many mods installed, the featured listing recommends Sir Joseph’s LML Startup Crash Fix. If the problem began after installing this mod, restoring your backup can help return the game to its previous state.
The Mexico content does not appear
Verify that the files are in the location specified by the current mod instructions and that Lenny’s Mod Loader is set up in the correct game directory. Also check that you installed Nuevo Paraiso – The Forgotten Frontier rather than Mexico on Minimap, which only describes a map-display change.

You are trying to launch multiplayer
Do not use Script Hook-based mods in multiplayer. The general modding guide says Script Hook will force-close the game if multiplayer is launched.
