Yes. Bose rates the SoundLink Max IP67, meaning it is dust-tight and can withstand temporary immersion in water under defined conditions. Bose specifies up to 1 m (3.3 ft) for up to 30 minutes. That rating is not permission to play audio while the speaker is submerged or to charge it while its USB-C port is wet.
What IP67 means on the SoundLink Max
An IP rating describes how well an enclosure protects against dust and water. The first digit, 6, means dust-tight. The second digit, 7, indicates protection against harmful water ingress during temporary immersion under defined conditions. Bose gives the SoundLink Max’s specific limit as up to 1 m (3.3 ft) for up to 30 minutes. The European Commission Joint Research Centre’s IP-code reference explains the digit categories.
These are specified test conditions, not a guarantee that every exposure to water will be safe. The IP67 rating alone also does not establish that the speaker is suitable for high-pressure water jets.
Can you play or charge it when it is wet?
No. Bose says not to play audio while the speaker is submerged. Before charging the SoundLink Max—or charging another device through it—make sure the USB-C port is completely dry. What to do after exposure to salt or pool water
If the speaker gets salt water or chlorinated water on it, Bose instructs users to gently rinse it with fresh water to remove residue, then dry it thoroughly. Ensure the USB-C port is fully dry before charging.
Does the SoundLink Max float?
Yes. Bose says the SoundLink Max floats to make retrieval easier, but it is not designed for use while floating. It may orient with its grille submerged, so floating should not be treated as a playback mode.
