Download KNIME Analytics Platform from the official KNIME downloads page, choose a release line and operating-system package, then install it using the steps for your computer. KNIME’s current installation guide lists supported Windows, Linux, and macOS versions; check that list before downloading because compatibility can change.
Check compatibility before downloading
KNIME’s current installation guide lists these operating systems as supported:
- Windows: Windows 10 and 11; Windows Server 2016, 2019, and 2022.
- Linux: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and 22.04 LTS and derivatives; RHEL, CentOS, and Rocky Linux 8 and 9.
- macOS: macOS 14 Sonoma and macOS 15 Sequoia, on Intel x86_64 and Apple silicon arm64.
KNIME notes that some extensions may have limited support on Apple silicon. These are the versions listed in the guide at the time of writing; revisit it if you are installing after a new operating-system release.

On the KNIME downloads page, select your release line, then the package for your operating system. KNIME says you may optionally provide personal information and must agree to the terms and privacy policy to download.
Install KNIME on Windows
- Download the Windows package from the official page.
- If you downloaded an installer or self-extracting archive, run it and follow its prompts. If you downloaded a ZIP, extract it to a folder you can access.
- For the ZIP package, open the extracted folder and run
knime.exe. For an installer package, launch KNIME after setup completes.
Install KNIME on Linux
- Download the Linux package from the official page.
- Extract the downloaded tarball to a directory where you want the application files.
- Open the extracted directory and run the
knimeexecutable.
Install KNIME on macOS
- Download the macOS disk image (DMG) from the official page.
- Open the DMG and wait for macOS to verify it.
- Drag the KNIME icon into the Applications folder.
- Launch KNIME from Applications.
Adjust memory only if your workflows need it
KNIME stores launch configuration in the knime.ini file in the installation folder. Its guide explains that the -Xmx option sets the memory available to the Java virtual machine. KNIME gives roughly half of the computer’s available system memory as a starting point—for example, 8 GB on a computer with 16 GB of memory. Treat that as a starting recommendation, not a guarantee for every workflow; change it only if you need to address memory constraints or have a workload-specific reason.

Update KNIME and add extensions
KNIME’s installation guide documents updates and extensions through its update sites. To check for updates, open the application menu, choose Check for updates, select the updates you want, and restart when prompted.
If internet access is limited or a proxy prevents the application from reaching an update site, the guide describes adding a local update-site ZIP from Preferences → Install/Update → Available Software Sites.
