Add a game to your Steam Wishlist, then choose whether to receive sale alerts by email, through the Steam mobile app, or both. Email preferences are managed in your account settings; for mobile alerts, check the app’s notification settings. Steam does not guarantee an instant notification for every price change.
Add the game to your Steam Wishlist
- Sign in to Steam and open the game’s store page.
- Select Add to your Wishlist.
- To return to your list, hover over Store and choose Wishlist. Steam says you can edit your list in the Steam client or a web browser. Steam Support’s Wishlist instructions also explain how to remove entries and how Wishlist visibility follows your Community Profile privacy settings.
Choose how Steam should notify you
Steam supports email and Steam mobile app notifications for games on your Wishlist. Its Wishlist Notifications page identifies Daily Deal, Midweek Deal, and Weekend Deal promotions as notification categories. You can use one channel or both.

Turn on email notifications
- Open the account-name menu in the upper-right corner of Steam.
- Choose Account Details, then Manage Email Preferences.
- Review the available message preferences and allow the notifications you want. Steam’s Steamworks Wishlist documentation says your email address must be verified to receive these notifications.
Check mobile notifications
Open the Steam mobile app and review its notification settings for Wishlist or sale alerts. Steam confirms that Wishlist notifications can arrive through the app, but the official instructions do not specify the current sequence of screens or the precise setting name. If you do not see the option, consult the app’s current settings rather than relying on an assumed menu path.
Why an alert may not arrive when a price drops
A Wishlist notification is not a guarantee of an alert for every price change, nor is email delivery necessarily immediate. Steamworks describes developer-side conditions for a promotional notification: a discount of at least 20%, applied to at least the lowest-priced package, and lasting more than eight hours. These are conditions for the documented promotion trigger, not a promise that every discount or lower price will produce an alert.

Steamworks also says email can take hours to send, with longer delays during high-volume periods. It describes a one-to-two-week cooldown between notifications for a given app, which may be extended when notification traffic is high. The documentation does not state a publication date for these operating conditions.

Troubleshoot a missing Steam sale alert
- Confirm the game is still wishlisted. Open Store → Wishlist and check that the game remains there.
- For email, verify the address and preferences. In Account Details → Manage Email Preferences, check that your address is verified and relevant messages are allowed.
- For mobile, check app notifications. Make sure mobile notifications have not been switched off in the Steam app.
- Allow for delivery delays and cooldowns. Email may take hours or longer during busy periods, and Steamworks documents a cooldown for notifications about an app.
