To check whether a Steam game is genuinely cheap, look up its price history on SteamDB, compare today’s price with earlier sale prices in your currency, and add the game to a tracker watchlist if you want to follow future drops. Steam wishlist notifications are a useful backup, but they have eligibility and delivery conditions.
Check a Steam game’s price history on SteamDB
- Go to SteamDB’s price tracker and search for the game by name.
- Open the game’s page and select its prices tab. SteamDB says game, bundle and package pages include a price table and graph.
- Read the history for your own Steam currency. Compare the current price with past sale prices and note whether the same price has appeared more than once.
A discount percentage describes the reduction from a reference price; it does not tell you whether the current price is a personal or historical best. The graph gives useful context, but it cannot predict the next sale: publishers choose discounts, and SteamDB says it cannot know in advance which games will be discounted or at what price.

Understand what a “lowest price” means
Check the tracker’s history period before treating a displayed low as an all-time low. SteamDB says its price records go back to 2012 and cover 41 Steam currencies. Its history is therefore broader than a short recent window, though currency and package differences still matter when comparing prices.

SteamDashboard is a separate tracker with a different stated scope. It says it records daily prices across seven regions and performs live checks across 12 regions; its displayed low covers records starting July 2, 2026. As of October 4, 2026, that is a recent-window low, not an all-time low. You can inspect its regional price history tool, but do not confuse its data with SteamDB’s.

Use the country or currency that matches your account when deciding whether a price is good for you. Changing Steam’s region to access another country’s lower prices violates Steam’s Terms of Service, according to SteamDashboard.
Track future drops with a watchlist
For ongoing monitoring, SteamDB supports account watchlists and manual import of a Steam wishlist. Its help page says price changes are tracked in real time and detected within minutes of a change on Steam. Add a game to the watchlist or import your wishlist, then use the tracker to check for a price movement.

IsThereAnyDeal offers a wishlist price-history and statistics view as another way to review tracked games. Its wishlist history page establishes those views; the cited page does not establish alert settings.

Use Steam wishlist alerts as a backup
Steam may send a wishlist discount notification only when its criteria are met: the discount is at least 20%, applies to the lowest-priced package, and lasts more than eight hours. Valve’s Steamworks wishlist documentation also notes that verified email and notification preferences affect whether you receive email alerts. Notifications can take hours, may be delayed during high-volume periods, and cooldowns are roughly one to two weeks, with possible extensions when activity is high.

These rules make Steam’s wishlist notification convenient, but not a guarantee that you will be alerted for every price change. Keep a tracker watchlist if you want to monitor a particular game more closely.

On April 16, 2026, PC Gamer reported that backend strings could point to a 30-day Steam price-history feature in the US, while cautioning that strings alone do not prove a live rollout. See PC Gamer’s report; treat the feature as unconfirmed unless it appears in your Steam client.
