What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Start by checking which apps are using power in Settings > Battery or Battery saver. If the drain began after a system update, Xiaomi says it can be temporary while the phone completes background optimization, app recompilation, and data indexing; it generally settles within a few charge cycles. If the drain persists, use the battery-use details to narrow down the cause before changing settings or seeking service.
Check what is using battery
Use the phone’s battery screen to distinguish an app-specific problem from broader system consumption. Xiaomi’s HyperOS guide says the screen shows battery-use trends and the share consumed by apps. Labels and menu paths can vary by software version or region.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Battery or Battery saver.
- Review the battery-use chart and app-level power percentages. Look for an app whose share seems unusually high for how much you used it.
The usage screen is a diagnostic clue, not proof that an app is faulty. A frequently used app may reasonably account for a large share.
Address an app that appears to be draining power
If one app stands out, update it first. If the high use continues, reduce its unnecessary background activity or temporarily restrict it, then check the battery-use screen again. Restricting background activity can delay notifications, syncing, or other work the app performs when you are not using it, so apply the restriction selectively.

If the drain started after a system update
Xiaomi’s global REDMI 17 5G FAQ says an update can temporarily increase battery use while the phone performs background optimization, recompiles apps, and indexes data. Xiaomi says this typically stabilizes “within a few charge cycles”; it does not give an exact number of hours or days. If the drain began immediately after updating, allow those processes to settle and check the usage screen again over subsequent cycles.
Use Battery saver for longer-lasting charge
Xiaomi’s HyperOS guide says Battery saver can reduce app background activity, stop sync, and minimize animations. These limits may help conserve charge, but can also delay updates and notifications or make some visual effects unavailable.

Ultra battery saver applies broader restrictions to most power-consuming features. It is intended for situations when the battery is low, rather than as a normal operating mode; expect reduced functionality while it is enabled. Exact controls and wording can vary across HyperOS versions.
When to contact Xiaomi support
If app-level checks and the post-update settling period do not improve the drain, contact Xiaomi support or an authorized service provider for diagnosis. These symptoms alone do not establish that the battery is worn, and a factory reset is not a guaranteed fix.

Battery capacity and expected runtime
Xiaomi’s published capacity differs by region: its global REDMI 17 5G FAQ lists 7,350 mAh rated and 7,500 mAh typical capacity, while Xiaomi India’s FAQ lists 7,900 mAh. Check the FAQ for your regional model rather than treating either figure as universal. Xiaomi’s reviewed pages do not publish a quantitative runtime benchmark, so they cannot establish how many hours a particular phone should last.
Xiaomi discusses incompatible chargers or cables and heat in relation to charging speed. That guidance does not establish either as a cause of rapid discharge while the phone is unplugged, so buying a charger or cable is not a supported battery-drain fix.
