Yes—you can charge a phone or other USB device from a cordless tool battery by using a purpose-built USB adapter made for that exact battery platform. Match the adapter to the battery family and model, then check its port ratings and instructions; battery voltage by itself does not establish compatibility.
Choose an adapter for your exact battery platform
Tool-battery adapters are platform-specific. Before connecting or buying one, check the manufacturer’s compatibility information for both the adapter and your battery model. Do not assume that two packs with similar voltage, or products from the same brand, are interchangeable.
These manufacturer-listed examples illustrate the differences among platforms and adapter features. Specifications below are manufacturer claims, not results from independent charging tests.

Compare the ports and what they can deliver
A higher current or wattage rating can indicate more output capacity, but it does not guarantee that a particular phone will charge at that rate. The device, cable, charging protocol and whether another port is in use can affect the result. Read the adapter’s rating and manual rather than treating a product-page maximum as a guaranteed rate for every device.

- Check connector type: Confirm whether you need USB-A, USB-C or another output. The FLEX adapter also accepts USB-C input for charging compatible packs.
- Check the rating: Compare the adapter’s stated voltage, current or power with your device’s requirements. For example, the Makita ADP001G manual specifies devices compatible with DC 5V, 2.4A.
- Check simultaneous-use limits: If an adapter has multiple ports, look for both the per-port rating and the total output. Makita lists 2.4A per port and 4.8A total for the ADP001G; do not assume that every adapter divides power the same way.
- Check what is in the package: Several adapters are tool-only. Confirm whether a compatible battery and charger are included or must be purchased separately.
Use the adapter safely
- Verify the battery match. Check the adapter manual or manufacturer compatibility listing for your exact battery family and model before attaching the pack.
- Connect only a suitable device. Follow the adapter’s stated output limits and the connected device’s requirements.
- Keep the port clear. For the ADP001G specifically, Makita warns that inserting a nail or wire into the USB port can short the circuit and cause smoke or fire. Follow the safety instructions for your own model.
- Disconnect and store as directed. The Makita ADP001G manual says to remove the battery after charging or during storage. Other adapters may have different instructions; use the manual for the selected model.
Do not improvise wiring or connect exposed cells, and avoid generic connectors when their compatibility and battery-protection behavior are unknown. A purpose-built, manufacturer-specified adapter is the straightforward route.

A USB adapter can make a compatible tool battery useful for powering USB devices, but the specifications above do not establish how long any particular phone will run or how quickly it will charge. No independent charging-time or runtime tests are available for these examples. Treat the listed figures as manufacturer specifications, and use them to match an adapter to your platform and device—not as a promise of real-world performance.
