To report an impersonating account on Messenger, open your conversation with it on messenger.com, then choose Options → Privacy & support → Report → Pretending to be someone. Select who the account is pretending to be and complete the on-screen report. Meta says impersonating accounts are not allowed on Messenger.
Report an impersonating account on messenger.com
- Go to messenger.com and open the conversation with the suspected impersonator.
- In the upper-right corner, select Options, then Privacy & support.
- Select Report.
- Choose Pretending to be someone, then identify the person the account is impersonating.
- Finish using the on-screen control. Meta’s documented desktop directions say to select Done.
Meta says Messenger accounts that pretend to be you, someone you know, or a public figure are not allowed. The help article’s available instructions document the desktop website route; its Android, iPhone, and iPad tabs do not establish a verified app-specific sequence. In the app, open the conversation and use the current in-app reporting controls rather than relying on desktop labels that may differ.
Messenger reports and Facebook reports are separate
The Messenger reporting route applies to the account or conversation in Messenger. Meta points users to Facebook Help Center for impersonation on Facebook, so do not assume a Messenger report also reports a related Facebook profile, Page, post, or other content. Report the Facebook presence separately through the relevant Facebook reporting option. Meta’s Messenger guidance
Check a report’s status and outcome
Meta says Facebook reports can generate a notification in Support Inbox, where a reporter can check status. After review, Meta says it tells the reporter whether the reported material did or did not violate Community Standards. If content remains, another review is usually available, but not for every report type. This guidance covers Facebook reporting generally; it does not promise a particular timing or outcome for a Messenger impersonation report. Meta’s Support Inbox and review guidance

Block the account if you want to limit contact
Blocking can help prevent messages from that person; Meta also says users can block or report messages that seem like spam or make them uncomfortable. Blocking is a separate step from reporting and does not show that Meta has reviewed or removed the account. Meta’s messaging guidance
Blocking also has limits: some material from a blocked profile may remain visible, such as messages in a group conversation shared with friends, and blocking one profile does not automatically block other profiles the person may create. Meta’s guidance on content visible from blocked profiles
