Protect a foldable phone by using a case made for its exact model, checking the inner screen and hinge for grit before folding, and leaving the factory-fitted inner-screen protector in place. Clean it gently and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for your model. A case or an ingress rating can reduce some risks, but neither makes a phone drop-proof, dustproof, or waterproof.
Protect it from drops and everyday bumps
Choose a case that explicitly lists your exact foldable model. Samsung notes that case availability depends on the Galaxy foldable model; compatibility should not be assumed across generations or even across models in the same range. Samsung’s foldable-phone care guidance is a starting point for checking compatible options.
Check that the case fits securely on both halves and does not interfere with folding, hinge movement, buttons, or ports. Consider the trade-off between exterior coverage, grip, and added bulk. Marketing terms such as “rugged” or “hinge protection” do not establish how well a case performs in a drop: the manufacturer sources cited here do not provide comparative drop-test results for cases.
A case can help protect exterior surfaces, but it cannot guarantee that a fall will not damage the hinge or inner display. Handle the device carefully even when it is cased.

For clamshell-style Motorola Razr phones
Motorola’s Razr care guidance advises closing the phone before putting it in a pocket or purse, not forcing the hinge beyond its designed motion, and not closing it over a card or debris. Keep grit away from the hinge and inner display
Before folding the phone, look over the inner display and hinge area and gently clear away visible particles. Sand, dirt, crumbs, and other debris can be pressed against a flexible screen when the device closes. Google specifically advises Pixel Fold owners to check for particles such as sand or dirt before closing the phone. Do not use a compressed-air duster as a universal way to clean a foldable. Motorola’s Razr care guidance says not to use pressurized air dusters. Use gentle cleaning that is permitted by the support guide for your exact model instead. Motorola’s Razr care instructions
Protect the flexible inner screen and its factory protector
Foldable inner displays need gentler treatment than traditional rigid phone screens. Keep fingernails, sharp objects, hard styluses, crumbs, and sand away from the display; avoid pressing or tapping it with a sharp object. Do not peel off the factory-installed inner-screen protector or add a third-party protector casually. Instructions differ by manufacturer and model family:
- Samsung Galaxy foldables: Samsung says its foldables ship with a specially designed main-screen protector and does not recommend removing it. For replacement, Samsung directs owners to an authorized service center; a charge may apply in some cases. Samsung foldable-phone care guidance

- Motorola Razr: Motorola warns that a third-party protector on the internal screen may reduce touch sensitivity, make the display unresponsive, or damage it. If the factory protector bubbles or separates, Motorola directs owners to service options. Motorola Razr screen-protector guidance
Clean gently and follow the model’s instructions
For routine dust or smudges, use a soft, dry, lint-free or microfiber cloth and wipe gently. Avoid abrasive cloths, and do not spray cleaner directly onto the screen. Samsung and Google support gentle wiping in their cited foldable guidance; Motorola’s Razr care page also advises gentle cleaning.

Do not assume that a wipe, disinfectant, or liquid approved by one manufacturer is suitable for another phone. Cleaning instructions vary by model. Check the official support page for your device before using anything beyond a dry, soft cloth.
