Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe easiest way to move data to a Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 Pro is to use Android’s copy-data prompts during the phone’s initial setup. Keep your old phone unlocked and charged, then follow the prompts to pair the devices and choose what to copy. If that route is unavailable, try Xiaomi’s Mi Mover app; if the old phone is gone, restore a Google Account backup instead.
Before you start
- Charge both phones, connect them to Wi-Fi, and keep the old phone nearby. You’ll need to unlock it with its PIN, pattern, or password.
- On the old phone, check that you can access the Google Account you want to use and that a recent backup exists if you may need to restore from one.
- Check available storage on the Redmi and decide which data matters most. You can select from the content offered during transfer, but not every app or setting is guaranteed to copy.
- If you plan to use a cable, make sure it fits both phones; an adapter may be needed. Xiaomi lists a USB Type-C cable among the Redmi Note 15 Pro package contents, but box contents can differ by region, so check what came with your phone before buying one.
- Keep the old phone intact until you have checked the Redmi and confirmed your important data is there.
The exact setup screens depend on the Redmi’s software build and region. Xiaomi’s global REDMI Note 15 Pro specifications list Xiaomi HyperOS 2, and Google notes that Android setup steps can vary by device.
Copy directly during the Redmi’s initial setup
Use Android’s built-in copy flow first if you have both phones. It is designed to transfer data from one Android phone to another while setting up the new device, using a cable or a wireless connection when offered.
- Turn on the Redmi Note 15 Pro and start its setup.
- When asked whether you want to set up with another device, choose the Android-device option and follow the pairing instructions. The setup may ask you to scan a QR code with the old phone.
- Unlock the old phone and approve the connection. Add or transfer your Google Account when prompted.
- Choose Copy apps and data (the wording may vary), then select the available content you want to move.
- Keep both phones connected and follow the Redmi’s prompts until setup says the transfer is complete. If the Redmi offers a cable connection and you prefer it, follow the on-screen instructions; Google says its cable and wireless methods support the same data in this setup flow.
- Check your contacts, photos, videos, messages, apps, and important app-specific content on the Redmi before you erase or reset the old phone.
Google’s Android Help cautions: “Some of these steps may vary based on your device.” For current setup guidance, see Switch to a new Android device.

Use Xiaomi Mi Mover if direct setup copy is unavailable
Mi Mover is Xiaomi’s alternative for moving selected data from another Android phone to a new Xiaomi phone. Xiaomi describes it as a local, peer-to-peer transfer using Wi-Fi Direct (WLAN Direct), so it does not consume mobile data. Compatibility and availability depend on the old phone and its operating-system version; follow the directions in the Mi Mover app installed on your devices if they differ from these steps.
- Enable Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on both phones, charge each to at least 30%, and install the latest Mi Mover app on both.
- Open Mi Mover on the old phone and choose Old. Open it on the Redmi and choose New.
- On the Redmi, select the old phone when it appears and connect the devices.
- Choose the data categories you want to send, review the reminders shown on screen, and start the transfer.
- Keep the phones close, leave their screens on, and avoid switching apps until Mi Mover finishes.
Xiaomi’s instructions are available at How to use Mi Mover to transfer data?. The categories that can move may vary with the old phone model and operating-system version, so check the Redmi after the transfer.

Restore a Google backup if the old phone is unavailable
If you no longer have the old phone, start Redmi setup, connect to a network, and sign in with the Google Account used on the old device. Choose the offered backup when prompted and follow the restore steps. What is restored depends on the backup and the phone’s Android version. Google says a backup from a higher Android version cannot be restored to a phone running a lower version, and a restore can take up to 24 hours to complete fully. Keep the Redmi on Wi-Fi and allow time for the restore to finish.
Contacts synced with that Google Account can appear after you sign in. Music services such as YouTube Music, Apple Music, and Spotify generally require you to install their apps and sign in; their content syncs through those accounts.

What may not transfer automatically
Neither direct setup copy nor a backup should be treated as a perfect clone. Google says its standard Android setup transfer may not include:
- Data from apps that do not use Android backup.
- Accounts other than Google and their data.
- Contacts or calendars synced through non-Google services.
- Ringtones and some phone settings.
The exact items and behavior depend on the phones and Android versions. For contacts or calendars tied to another service, sign in to that service on the Redmi or use its export/import process. For local files and app-specific data, check the source app’s own backup or migration controls.

WhatsApp chats and data require particular attention: Google’s migration help points to a separate WhatsApp procedure. Follow WhatsApp’s current in-app or official transfer instructions, then open WhatsApp on the Redmi and verify that your chats are present instead of assuming the general phone copy included them.

The copy appears stuck
If the copy has remained stuck for more than 15 minutes, Google advises stopping it and checking what transferred. Retry only after confirming both phones are charged and connected.
Wireless copy is slow or unavailable
Follow the Redmi’s setup prompts to try a compatible cable. Confirm the cable fits both phones, use an adapter if needed, and make sure both devices have enough charge.
QR-code pairing fails
Use Google’s alternate pairing-code option if it is offered in the troubleshooting flow. If the old phone never receives the setup prompt, the Redmi may offer backup restore instead.
You skipped copying during setup
Check Redmi setup notifications or Settings for a Finish setting up or copy-from-another-device option. Whether you can return to the copy flow varies by device and how far setup has progressed; some cases may require restoring a backup or resetting the new phone.
