Choose your Ace Combat 8 loadout around the mission, not a universally “best” jet: read the briefing, match your aircraft to the targets, select an available special weapon for the main threat, and tune the aircraft with upgrade parts. Revisit the setup as missions, difficulty, and your unlocked aircraft change.
Start with the mission objective and briefing
Identify what the sortie asks you to do before choosing an aircraft. The official overview describes missions involving dogfights, air support for ground troops, and attacks on seaborne threats. Those objectives point to different priorities: air-to-air capability for hostile aircraft, air-to-ground capability for ground targets, or coverage for a mix of threats. The briefing is also where the game provides intelligence to inform your choices. See the official game overview and the official walkthrough.
Match the aircraft to the target mix
Compare the aircraft’s stated role and capabilities with the mission’s targets. Relevant considerations include air-to-air and air-to-ground suitability, versatility, maneuverability, and whether range matters for the sortie. Prefer a specialist when the objective strongly favors one role; consider a multirole aircraft when the mission combines target types. A multirole label alone does not make an aircraft the better choice for every sortie.
Example: Rafale M
Bandai Namco describes the Rafale M as a multirole carrier aircraft suited to air superiority, interdiction, reconnaissance, and air support. Its description notes long-range air-to-air and air-to-ground munitions as well as close-combat capability. That makes it an example of broad role coverage, not a ranking or a recommended build for every mission. Check the official aircraft roster and the aircraft information available in your current game for applicable options.

Choose a special weapon for the key threat
Once you have identified the main target group, review the special weapons actually available for the selected aircraft and choose one that supports the objective. Use the briefing’s intelligence to guide that choice. The publisher’s general guidance supports selecting a weapon to fit the situation; it does not establish every aircraft-and-weapon pairing, weapon damage values, or slot counts. Confirm availability and values in the current in-game loadout screen rather than assuming a weapon can be equipped.
Tune the aircraft with upgrade parts
Use upgrade parts to tailor the fighter to the sortie you expect. Bandai Namco’s walkthrough says parts can be freely combined, allowing you to build a fighter for each mission. Treat that as an invitation to adjust your setup to the challenge and your preferred playstyle—not as proof of a particular best-in-slot combination or exact part effect. Factor in difficulty, controls, and progression
Difficulty and control preference affect how you approach a loadout. In its difficulty guide dated September 18, 2026, Bandai Namco Europe says missiles can be harder to shake on Veteran and damage recovery depends more on your loadout. The guide also distinguishes Standard and Expert control approaches, noting that Expert allows a wider range of maneuvers. If incoming missiles or damage are a greater concern, weigh those conditions when deciding how to tune the aircraft. Choose the control style you can use comfortably. Aircraft unlock through MRP earned in missions, so your ideal choice may not yet be available. Select the best-fitting option you have, then reassess as your roster expands. The reviewed publisher material does not establish an optimal unlock order or unlock prices.

Use this loadout decision sequence
- Read the objective and briefing. Sort the expected targets into hostile aircraft, ground forces, naval threats, or a mixture, and note the briefing intelligence.
- Choose an available aircraft for that role. Compare its stated role and capabilities with the target mix; for a mixed mission, consider multirole coverage without assuming it is always superior to a specialist.
- Review special weapons for that aircraft. Pick an available option that supports the key threat or target group, using the current in-game screen to verify compatibility and values.
- Adjust upgrade parts. Tailor the fighter to the anticipated challenge and your playstyle, without relying on an unverified universal build.
- Account for difficulty and controls. Consider the added missile and damage-management pressure described for Veteran, along with the control approach that suits you.
- Reassess when circumstances change. Revisit the setup for a different objective or difficulty, or when you unlock another aircraft with MRP earned in missions.
What to compare when several aircraft could work
- Mission role and target coverage: How well does the aircraft fit air-to-air, air-to-ground, or mixed objectives?
- Special weapon availability: Does this aircraft offer an option suited to the mission’s main threat?
- Maneuverability or range: Which is more relevant to the task described in the briefing?
- Upgrade-part choices: Can you tune this airframe for the challenge you expect?
- Difficulty and control preference: Does the setup fit the demands you face and the controls you prefer?
Official descriptions support comparing aircraft along these lines, but the publisher material reviewed does not provide a complete numerical comparison table, verified mission-by-mission builds, full weapon statistics, or tested performance rankings. Use current in-game information for exact options and values; treat aircraft descriptions as role guidance, not a substitute for those details.
