If Forza Horizon 6 says “Sign In Required: You may not proceed without being signed in to a profile,” first confirm you’re signed in to the Microsoft account you intend to use, restart Windows, install available Windows and Microsoft Store updates, then try Repair for the Xbox app or Microsoft Store app you use. These are general Windows troubleshooting steps—not a confirmed fix for this specific Forza error. If Microsoft sign-in completes but the game still cannot load your Xbox profile, contact Forza Support with the details below.
What the error means—and what it does not
The message indicates that the game cannot proceed with an Xbox profile available. It does not, by itself, prove that your internet connection is the cause, even if it also says “Please check your network connection to continue.” Microsoft authentication and loading a profile in the game are separate steps: a Steam Deck player reported that QR-code sign-in succeeded, but the game then showed the profile error. That report is specific to SteamOS/Proton and does not establish the cause on Windows. Steam Community report
There is no verified Windows-specific Forza Horizon 6 fix established for this exact error. The steps below follow Microsoft’s general advice for troubleshooting Windows apps; they may help with an app or sign-in problem, but they are not a guaranteed game-specific remedy.
Try these Windows troubleshooting steps
-
Confirm the account and launcher
Check that the Microsoft account you expect to use is signed in, and note whether you launch the game through Steam or the Xbox app/Microsoft Store. Avoid switching accounts or unlinking them as an initial fix; those actions have not been established as safe or effective for this error.

Restart Windows and install updates
Restart your PC. Then check Windows Update and open the Microsoft Store’s Library to install available updates. Microsoft recommends checking for Windows and Store updates when troubleshooting Store apps. Microsoft: Fix problems with apps from Microsoft Store
-
Repair the relevant app
In Windows, open Settings > Apps > Installed apps. Select the Xbox app or Microsoft Store app relevant to how you play, open Advanced options, and choose Repair if it is available. Microsoft describes this as a built-in app repair option; it is not a Forza-specific fix, and the option is not available for every app. Microsoft: Repair apps and programs in Windows

Use Reset only if Repair does not help
If Repair is unavailable or unsuccessful, return to the app’s Advanced options and choose Reset if offered. Reset may clear local app data and require you to sign in again. Restart Windows afterward and try launching the game.
-
Test the network carefully
Confirm that ordinary internet access works. If you use a VPN, proxy, or network filter, you can briefly test with it disabled only if doing so is safe for your network and region, then restore your usual settings. One Linux user reported getting signed in after disabling a VPN, but that is a single platform-specific anecdote, not evidence of a Windows fix. Linux user report

When sign-in succeeds but the game still shows the error
If Microsoft authentication finishes but Forza Horizon 6 still cannot load the Xbox profile, or if the steps above do not help, contact Forza Support. The Forza site directs players there for account issues and related support. Include:
- Your Windows version and whether you launch through Steam or the Xbox app/Microsoft Store.
- The exact error text, including “Please check your network connection to continue” if it appears.
- Whether Microsoft authentication completes before the game displays the error.
- Whether the same account can sign in to the Xbox app.
What not to try as a presumed fix
Reports about this message include Steam Deck cases as well as Windows-related questions, so fixes or failures on one platform do not establish what will work on another. One Steam Community thread included links to batch files from an unrelated sign-in discussion; a later commenter said trying them did not work. Do not run unverified scripts or change security settings on that basis. The available evidence also does not verify reinstalling the game, deleting credential entries, switching accounts, or unlinking accounts as Windows fixes for this error. Steam Community discussion
